Currently getting 285 75 16 baja atz's put on with American racing 16x9 -12 offset and the rub is pretty bad. Doesn't look like I can even trim enough to make it work.

I am dead set on doing a +2.5 long travel in the future but have no intentions of doing this for a year from now.

What is my best bang-for-buck solution to make this not rub till then? My current thought is a headstrong spacer and minor trimming if needed from there. Thank you in advance for the input and help!

Cheap level lift until you put in your suspension? -12 should be plenty, I don't think spacers will help.

    Spacer will make it worse.
Your tire rotates in an arc around an axis.
The further out you push the arc, the more travel the tire will have forward and rear when turning.

    :militarypress::sawzall::welder:
You'll have to do it sooner or later if you're going LT.

Why are you buying the tires and wheels first when you know it won't fit? Go with stock tires and wheels and do the suspension first instead on trying to do it the painful way and spend money on a temporary band-aid.

Build the LT first then decide on tires and wheels.

Theoretically, would a cmc with a Bilstiens 6112 coil/strut on clip #4/#5 (1.5" lift) be the right thing to do? I would assume that off-roading would still rub plastic but would this setup be enough for DD'ing?

I can barely turn the wheel 1 full rotation in either direction right now so I would like to figure this out and order something tonight.

Everyone's going to give you a different answer. Some will say yes, some no, some will say it will rub a little.

    Good Luck

Where are you rubbing? The upper control arm?

+1 what @splitbolt said. With that offset, even the bilstein lift will likely rub. You're probably going to be cutting when you go LT anyway, just go for it now too. You'll cut a bunch of plastic and pinch weld behind the tires, and CMC, and then you should be good until the 35s arrive :)

Not a very productive answer, but I still appreciate your feed back. I went with tires/wheels first because I wanted better traction, some additional ground clearence, and the blackout look without dropping the big bucks on a LT kit, coilovers, fiberglass quarter panels that need to be painted, and labor costs. And according to this thread (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/285-75-r16-results-on-2016-trd-offroad.396218/) 285 75 16 fits on stock OR. I already have the tires and wheels so I'm not going back, I love these tires!

I don't know if there is UCA rub yet becuase I can only turn one full rotation in either dirrection. I see rub on front of wheel wheel plastic just inside of the fender flare at the very bottom, back end of the fender flare, and the cab mount. Cab mount is the most concerning of all rub to me.

When that day comes I will be putting on fiberglass quarter panels and will definetly have the cab mount chop done already. For some reason, I am way more comfortable cutting the cab mount than I am the plastic. Also, the two plastic locations that need trimming both have bolts in the way. I don't wan't to remove bolts and screws that hold the plastics together and having things loose and floppy.

Definitely won't be loose and floppy, there are more bolts right nearby. I promise.

You might get away with it with stock OR wheels with their huge inward offset (and probably rub UCA in the process), but not once you push your tires out with the offset your new wheels have.

Thank you for the pictures and encouragement (I really need it)! No trimming on the front of the wheel well? I am wondering if I am having more issues than most due to a larger than average wheel width. My theory may be wrong here, but I think that the wider wheel width causes less balloon effect on the tire side wall so it inflates to a slightly larger overall diameter.. I don't know if that makes sense but I wonder.

9" wheel is definitely contributing. Only had rubbing on the front when I brought my caster too far forward. The front is much easier to cut as it's all plastic (no welds or anything).

Get a full front bumper and all that plastic goes away too :)

    Mickey Thompson Baja Atz's.

I don't know why I never see people with these but when I saw them in person today I thought "holy shit, did I buy M/T's?" tons of void between tread and the most legit aggressive sidewall imo. Yeah, there probably not as quiet as K02's but a little noise for a lot more tread void is an easy compromise for me.
