I'm thinking about driving down from the bay area to the Death Valley area. I'm going to take my stock 16 DCSB 4x4 Off Road with some bfg ko2's. I'm going to have my 19 month old daughter, and of course the Misses. Were planning on doing a 3-4 day trip, and camping at night. So nothing crazy. We just want to be off the beaten path and see some cool stuff. I saw a trail on "All trails " called Saline Valley Drive that I figured we can take into death valley? Where to?Cool spots? Directions?

Even open to going along with other people if anyone is interested? We're thinking about mid to late August. Thanks!

I'd wait til fall especially with the family. But do a search in this forum for death valley and you'll find a few threads with some really great info.

Hi Frank  Sorry but I would not take my 19 month daughter and wife out to Death Valley in August! They call it Death Valley for a reason! Temperatures will be average 120+ Like @adadandhistruck said I'd wait for the fall and if you have someone to go out there with you (another truck)that would be even better!

Ballarat is a pretty cool ghost town and is accessible via a wide, graded dirt road. Getting there (and out) may require hitting a harder trail than you would be interested, but Briggs Cabin is the best place to spend a night out there. There are a lot of cabins that are maintained by the Adopt-a-Cabin program that are very well stocked but Briggs Cabin is the best of them. My Tundra made it through with some scratches on the wheels (34" tires, no sliders) so your truck could probably fit as well.

Dang you guys are totally right . Wtf was I thinking? I didn't really think that part through. I was more excited thinking about the destination than the weather at the moment. I'm a dumbass lol. We will go in the fall now.
