A friend and I parked out cars in a lot on campus at 9am with one parking spot between us. I walked out at 8pm and she was standing by her car with a dead battery. I said no prob, I'll give you a jump and tried to start my truck, which also turned out to have a dead battery. I can't speak for her but my truck has had ZERO battery issues until today. The engine turned over, but just barely and didn't start. Her car would only click once. Both batteries just flat dead. Campus security gave each of us a jump and we were on our way. I took the long way home to give the battery a chance to recharge and have no dummy lights or problems. She says her battery is dead again, I just tried my truck and it starts fine. Guess I'll see how it is in the morning.

I'm not a big believer in coincidences, I can see no evidence that my truck was messed with but I can't rule it out. 2 dead batteries in 2 cars parked right next to each other seems suspicious to me. Anyone have any suggestions on what to look for or know of some scam or just dickhead move that kills batteries? For what purpose? How can i check to see if there is a draw on the battery when the truck is off?

Were any lights left on? Not saying you guys are dumb, but sometimes life gets hectic and we tend to miss a few minor details.

Any other cars by you experience the same thing?

Sounds like just a coincidence to me. If someone was messing with cars they would have done worse or at least several other cars would have had the same problem. Is it your stock battery?

There were a few other cars around but I didn't see anyone else out there trying to start them. No lights or anything left on in my truck. I have some camping gear and stuff in my bed (under my bed topper) and nothing was touched so that makes me think maybe it was just a weird coincidence, but I dunno. It is the original stock battery on my 2012 truck and Alaskan winters definitely take their toll on equipment up here, so I've been wondering how long that battery would last. Still seems odd to me though

5 years out of a battery is pretty good. I wouldn't stress about it though. Time to think about a new one

    Or it was a coincidence.

    Pick one.

    Probably just coincidence.

The real question is, was the girl hot, and if so, did you get her number.

This is why you need a dash cam with parking mode

How hot was it that day. Summer heat will kill an older battery. Good luck.

Well the truck started fine this morning. I guess I'll go get my battery checked and probably just buy a new one. It only got up to around 80 degrees yesterday. I have a dash cam but don't have parking mode active. Maybe I will after this, just because.

How large a campus? I bet at least one car battery goes dead once a month. That day, two cars just happened to be parked next to each other when the batteries died. How old was her car battery? If new, then, yes, a power greater than us probably messed with the batteries.

See that's what I wanted to know too. I don't see an answer yet. I'm thinking of she was hot, she may have scorched the batteries. Maybe she was wearing something skimpy that day.. being 80 and all? OP.. we need pics of the girl to help you with your question.

Sounds like your 5 year old battery that weathered Alaskan winters was walking dead. the coincidence is that her battery died as well, not that they both died simultaneously as yours was already toast.

Batteries in that kind of cold can die if you look at them wrong including 5 years.
New battery time. 27F or 24F?

It literally says in the first sentence of the OP that is was his friend...so I don't think he'd need to get her number, lol.
