I cut mine and a bunch of other people's right at the bottom of the turn down so the exhaust is pointing at the ground and toward the rear. Cordless reciprocating saw takes about 30 seconds.

Uh! I lied! Sorry. Mine is cut after the last hanger for support. But I did cut some other people's before the hanger so that they are pointing down. I did like 3 in one day when I had a bunch of friends over for a mod day.

Awesome thanks for the info, did you clean up your cut with file or anything. I have a magnaflow fits just like the stock exhaust I'm hoping it won't make the cab noise much worse if it does I will prob just put in some dynomat.

You know, it actually got slightly louder and everyone that got theirs cut said the same thing. Yeah, we filed the burrs off after.

    :edit:
BTW, @ken360 I'm in a second gen so different engine, so maybe slightly different sound, but cutting off the tip off should be the same.

No problem! Personally I think it looks cleaner with the tip cut off, and if you are wheeling, it won't get smashed and damage your beside too. I've seen it happen on a few tacos going over big rocks.

Excuse my ignorance, but does doing this just make the sound louder? Any down sides to doing this?

I did mine in my 17 and the noise actually got more quite. I have seen to many people damage the rear quater panel from smashing the exuaust on a rock.

Yes the soul purpose for this is clearance and protection from smashing the exhaust on a rock and damaging the back panel.

Some cars will get more fumes in the cab with a mod like this. I can't speak for Tacomas though. Also, the exhaust note will get slightly more raspy.
