How long did your water pump and coolant hoses last ?

I have a 2006 1GR-FE 4.0. So it's 12 years old and has 170000 on it with normal maintenance and 3 front hub bearings...and the frame of course. Other than that she just cranks along, towing the occasional camper, horse trailer, wood pellets or a cow to the butcher. BUT, the fan clutch went bye bye last week ! Heck, I'm a maintenance hog but forgot I even had one...DUH.

Anyways, how many miles have folks got on their water pump, radiator, thermostat and hoses? There's a ton of little stupid coolant hoses all over this thing. Will probably do them all at some point but, heck, I would think the hoses these days would last pretty long and the water pump....it's a Toyota, right? Anyone get to 200K? My research shows radiator, all hoses, thermo and water pump is around $600 buying online Toyota parts. But should I yet?

 

Water pump lasted me 101k only real repair that has been done so far. I replaced water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, radiator, and coolant all at the same time. The coolant and was the most expensive part of the whole thing(bought from stealership). Everything else bought from rockauto.com for 250

 

How many miles since ? And did you replace all the hoses including the engine to heater core and coolant to oil filter cooler?

 

I'm coming up on 160K. Replaced the following at 100K: radiator hoses, thermostat, coolant, and serpentine belt. I don't use corporate coolant; all my Toyota products use universal coolant (Prestone or SuperTech) and none have ever had cooling issues. All still have original water pumps, except the Sienna which got a new water pump at 240K'ish as preventive maintenance. At every 10K oil change, I check the water pump seep hole for leakage and hoses for cuts and what not. I plan on replacing the pumps at 200K in all the cars as preventive maintenance. WPT-802); I will be staying with that brand, but will not buy it from the stealership; I get most of my parts from Amazon or RockAuto. $89 for the pump.

 

I had a 07 and it got totaled in 13. It had 227,000 miles on it. Replaced just the water pump for 132.00 at 220,000. And replaced the front main seal. That's it for anything above normal maintenance. And changed oil every 12,000 miles. Castro full synthetic with either bosch, mobil one oil filter.

Only 1k since didnt replace any hoses only checked. All looked really good replaced all the spring clamps with hose clamps though

 

Just replaced the leaking water pump on my 07 at 99k miles. I went ahead and replaced the hoses too even though they looked okay.

 

I have a 2010 with 116K same water pump and hoses.

 

On the 4.0, where is this weep hole?

What brought this up was I was towing my camper and halfway to the destination in a 3 light town the truck started to overheat (like 3/4 up the guage, but not nearly in the red). I pulled over, waited a while and refilled with some distilled water and antifreeze, still not sure what happened. I squeezed and wiggled the upper rad hose to burp the air out (important point - because 30 miles up the road THWANK goes the upper hose - blew right off. So I pull over, repeat refill, and found the next store to put on a REAL clamp. Made rest of trip just being careful to hold back and time the few lights between my home and the campground (130 miles, 5000 lb hybrid camper). Even pulling up steep hills the temp stayed perfect, I knew it had to be the fan clutch. So all this is what has me considering if I should be replacing all hoses and thermostat soon. AFTER I take a cow to market tomorrow....hehehe......

There's just so many little extra hoses, this ain't no 65 Mustang.....

 

2005 DCSB TRD off road, about 197000 miles. Still have original water pump and hoses.
I think I do hear a whine comin from the engine bay but my trans temp is still normal. I think my power steering pump is making the noise.
I plan to replace the water pump when it starts to go. I don't think I would do it before it went out.

 

I always replace the upper and lower radiator hoses when a vehicle reaches ten years old. I have had them get soft and rupture before, and obviously when that happens you are stranded. The Gates hoses I got from Rock Auto were around $10 each, that's not much money for some added piece of mind.

 

I just replaced WP at 187k as preventative maintenance. I had the whine too it was idler pulleys, which was 200 for all four at oriellys. If you plan on doing pump I'd recommend getting the idlers and tensioner pulleys from rock auto too, they're probably cheaper.

 

My 07 with 180,000 still has all original coolant, hoses, and water pump. I did have to replace the alternator last month. I've replaced 1 U-Joint, all 4 shocks, and the HVAC blower. Other than that just oil, brakes, and tires.

 

Weeps holes are towards the bottom of water pumps. Some have a 2nd weep hole on top to help to serve as a vent and stabalize the seals to atmospheric pressure. It can be normal for some coolant to seep out, but if coolant continuously seeps out, then it's an indication the seal has ruptured/torn.

Coolant service interval is 100k miles and 50k miles after that. I drained and flushed my coolant just shy of 100k miles. I, also, replaced the two radiator hoses and thermostat just for good measure.

 

I was thinking that myself. I can't imagine running original coolant for 180k miles, it probably has very little corrosion inhibitors left.
