Looking for a rear e-locker axle housing and am coming up blank for ones within driving distance. Will be swapping over as many parts as I can after I did this to my son's 4runner...

Just starting to read up on what is compatible and what is not. Have to get everything buttoned up before the Colorado Toyota Jamboree.

Did that flop do something to the housing or is this an "I'm sorry, here's an E-locker rear end" kind of deal? haha. You'll need the whole axle, with shafts, not just a housing if you want to upgrade. I've seen people come up on craigslist and others at U-pull-it or similar yards. Anywhere that is marketing them to sell them will be the most expensive because they know what they have.

I have the e-locker rear in the 4runner. It was my understanding that I could swap the guts and 3rd out of my 4runner axle in to a Taco one.

I'm just curious and not sure of the goal here, are you converting the 4runner to leafs? What are you trying to do?

4runner is totaled. Swapping as many good parts as I can to a Tacoma.

Sorry, I missed that. I'll bet you'd have a better time trying to sell your axle as is to a 4runner owner and buying a complete e-locker rear end for a tacoma. It's unlikely someone would just be selling a housing, but not impossible.

To the OP, if the Tacoma is running then part out 4runner and buy a Camburg axle for the taco if you want good.

If you want viable but less expensive than a race axle then maybe Ford 9" swap? Could probably find a front end wrecked F150 easy enough

Are the Tacoma e-locker axles weaker than the 4runner ones? I wheel the snot out of my 4runner with an e-locker and have never felt the need to swap.

Those elocker axles have been the same since inception pretty sure. Only thing different between the two is links vs leafs and any other minor mount changes over the years. In the rockcrawling world, plenty of guys use and abuse toyota housings with 35-42" tires all the time with no issues. Only reason I see to step up to a different axle is if you want something made wider and/or you're doing serious desert racing/abusing and want something full float. Toyota axles are pretty damn stout.

    The Bed is stock...ish

The only difference in the 4runner and Tacoma is one is leaf, the other coil.

Check car-part dot com for housings near you.

I'd check parts side by side if necessary - I had a reputable dismantler tell me an abs axle shaft from a 4runner would fit my 01 e-locker housing and it did not. The bearings were different. I'm assuming you know that backing plates are different between tacomas and 4runners.

Ruff stuff and diamond both make custom axle housings for our applications if you feel like spending some money ;)

Thanks. If I told my son that wiring up the rear locker mandatory before the trip instead of optional I might have been able to reverse out of it. Slowest of my 4 flops so far. Tried to convince my wife to let me hack it all up and do an exo on it - no success.

If I did that it would be for my rig - if my son wants to upgrade he can do it after he goes in the Air Force.

OK, don't need one now. Bought a Taco with one already installed
