After buying the scangauge II for $80 I was disappointed to find out that it offers no gauge reading for either oil pressure or oil temperature.

I have decided to purchase and install separately a combination digital oil pressure and oil temperature gauge from Innovate Motor Sports

Warning lights can be set for both oil pressure and oil temperature levels.

My question is: who knows what the average limits for low oil pressure and high oil temperature would be on my 3RZ-FE (2.7L)?

I have not been able to find this info in the factory tech manuals.

not being a smart ass here but that is kind of a tough question to answer... it all depends on where you are measuring the oil temperature. Usually oil temp is within 15 to 20 degrees of water temp. Too cool and the fuel and condensation never evaporate away too hot and non-synthics start to break down. As for oil pressure, 10 psi for every 1000 rpms is a good starting point, this depends on just how tight the bearing clearances are the oiling system after all is nothing but a controlled leak.

I am also curious just what type of oil temp sending unit and just where it gets installed ?

I think the range of the one you show should be fine.

Then I just use Mechanical oil pressure gauges over the years to many sending unit failures

What's that other popular obd 2 scan tool that everyone uses. It has a digital interface and lots of widgets. It might offer oil psi and temp.
Can't think of the name of it.

    Good points all!

I am debating whether to put both senders into an oil filter adapter plate or better put the temperature sender into the oil pan with a M12-1.25 drain plug adapter where it will definitely get a good reading. That would also get it away from the exhaust header near the filter, which may or may not influence the sender.

The sender has 1/8" NPT threads. The manufacturer recommends not installing it directly into the oil pressure switch port or near the oil pump as the pressure pulsations will damage it.

Are you thinking of a dash mounted tool like scangauge or a simple computer interface linked via bluetooth to a cell phone app?
My first question would be is whether the OEM pressure switch is capable of detecting a full range of pressure. And you would certainly need an additional oil temperature sender as the Tacoma does not have one, right?

    Matic,
    Some food for thought...
I found the Toyota manual directions for testing the oil pressure switch:

    upload_2017-7-24_9-9-51.jpg
    What do you think?
Can it be concluded that the sender is only capable of detecting a an internal pressure drop in the oil system below 7.1 psi, at whatever RPM?
After all it is called a "switch" aka idiot light.
But what about the spec'd idle psi of 4.3?

Comparing this to the directions for testing the water temperature sender:

Note that the water temp sensor offers a range of values based on a resistance to current.
