It fairly wobbly. I imagine a set screw that worked would solve that problem.

We aren't that hardcore with the biking, but starting a 5k km road trip tomorrow out to Cape Breton and are bringing the bikes along. I wonder how easy it'll be to ride up Old Smokey?
Really enjoy all the info in the forum.

Just got these a week ago for the wife and I. We wanted decent equipment that would break the bank. Ended up with a Trek Marlin 7 and a Cannondale Foray

    IMG_0585.jpg

We went out today and loved them

I'm headed to Jackson Hole in 3 weeks. Does anyone have an advice on riding out there. I think I will probably do a guided tour since I'm not the most technical rider and I really just want to get out and have a good time (i.e I don't want to transverse a mountain). Has anyone used a company for a guided tour?

Any other Jackson Hole tips and advice are more than welcome. My wife and I have been in the winter for skiing but we haven't been in the summer so it is little unfamiliar from that standpoint.

New bike day! Well not exactly a new bike, I've had this thing for almost ten years and finally decided to do something incredibly stupid with it. Meet Humuhumu-nukunuku-apua'aww-shit:

    Was:

    Is:

Nexus 8 speed coaster brake hub, 180mm Avid BB7 up front, cheap MTX39 rims at both ends w/ WTB 26x3.0 Ranger rubber. An incredibly stupid bike for an incredible amount of stupid fun. Just finished a 7 mile break in ride. Nearly brake checked myself right off of the front of the bike a couple of times trying to back pedal to a rest position and modulating front and rear brake together is really hard to do, but the bike is so fun nonetheless.

I only did some short rides in Jackson last summer ... right from town near Snow King. It was fun being close to town ... ride some single track, then get a beer (or two) at Snake River Brewing. We are fit intermediates (though not used to altitude) and we're told that most good rides near town are better shuttled unless you're a climbing animal ... get a ride up to Teton Pass between Jackson and Victor, Idaho, then ride down. At the other extreme, there's a great paved bike trail from town into the National Park. When I'm in a new place I usually go into a local bike shop for trailer ecommendations, and buy a map and a few energy bars or a local souvenir; the Hub bike shop in Jackson seemed like super friendly and knowledgeable folks. Someday good prices on Ibis also ...

Putt-Putt and the like by Snow King are good rides accessible from town (and brewery), but you owe yourself a trip to Teton pass if you can.

Hoback sports as you come into Jackson can hook you up with where "the goods" are. And if Jen is working, tell her Conner says hi!

Rode the WoW trail this weekend before hitting park laps at Sundance in the afternoon. 11.1 Miles of prime Wasatch downhill!

My partner may not have been as excited as I was about it.

Its getting time for new tires. Currently running Minion DHR 2s. Anyone got other recommendations?

Also, thoughts on skinwalls with this bike? V

I just installed DHF Minions on my Tallboy and think they're the best I've had so far (after the OEM Ikons, and a Spec Purgatory/Ground Control duo). No mud this time of year but lots of loose-over-hard and rocky stuff. I don't corner fast but downhill braking (front) and uphill traction (rear) when standing up are hugely improved on the loose dry stuff. The rear does feel heavy ... but climbing is supposed to be hard, right?

My brain can't handle the tricks in this vid. I've had it on loop all day, and a wierd desire to punish myself at the bike park today after work has developed.

Not quite sure what the trails are exactly like where you ride, but I'm currently running a DHF/DHR 2 combo. It's a bit more than I really need most of the time for the hard packed dirt(with some rocky sections) I normally ride but they do grip really well, though it is a bit of a heavy combo. I've also run spec buther/purgatory combo which also was pretty good, I do find the maxxis tires seem to hold tire pressure longer compared to the spec tires..

Generally Wasatch trails are moon dust on concrete-style hardpack. Southern Utah is moondust and razor rock.

I ran the butcher purgatory combo on my Stumpy, but I have been really happy with the DHR2s on my Bronson. DHFs sound like they would be a little lighter, but I like the idea of a slightly burlier casing since I am getting into the more enduro/DH stuff as well as a few park days thrown in for good measure.

I thought the DHF's were actually heavier than the DHR 2's, could be wrong though

Not sure about actual weight but the DHF is the most aggressive tread. I'm a pretty timid rider on a short travel 29-er but got the DHF's because I need all the help I can get :) Most local guys with longer travel bikes like Bronson's, Mojo's etc use the DHF here, year round.
