    3 inch suspension lift
Hi gang. My first thread. I apologize if this has been discussed in an earlier thread and Ive missed it. I am a few months away from purchasing my 3rd Taco. My current 04 has a 3in lift and I like the look. However, my next truck I would like to get close to the same look without messing with a lift. First off , does a 4x4 allow bigger tires or does it naturally sit up higher on the suspension? Ive seen some pics and its probably just me but it seems like the 4x4's have the more rugged look im looking for. If that's true I would rather spend the money on a 4x4 rather than the lift. 2nd what tire/rim packages does anyone recommend for the look im trying to achieve whether it be a 4x2 or 4x4? Thanks in advance.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
A picture and more information on your current truck would be helpful. Is it a 5 or 6 lug? Using the search option in the top right would more than answer the questions you have.

The 3rd gen Tacomas all sit at the same height, the TRD models look more "rugged" due to the tire choice. All models are now built on the same 6 lug platform, but some get 245 sized tires and some 265.
You can up the size of tire from 265/70-16 (or 265/65-17) to a 265/75-16 (or 265/70-17) without any rubbing or clearance issues.

The 4WD and 2WD all sit the same height? Or were you referring strictly the 4WD models?

    Thanks

As for the 2nd generation Tacomas the did make a 5 lug 2wd platform which is significantly lower than the 6 lug tacomas. But between the 6 lug platform 2wd and 4x4 sit at the same height. There are lower trim levels which came with smaller tires and appear lower, however if you were to mount the same size tires they'd sit at the same height.
The baja tx and trd pro 2nd gen trucks did have a small factory lift.

As for the 3rd gen, all of them are now on the 6 lug platform, Toyota did away with the 5 lug tacoma. All 3rd gen tacomas have the same suspension geometry (2wd and 4x4), but again could have different tires. So if a tacoma looks lower or smaller, check the tire sizes because the suspension is at the same height. This can be proven by measuring from the hub to the fender. Even the 3rd gen TRD pro has the same height (upgraded Fox suspension, but no additional lift).
