I got this idea from the Lexus RX 350 and new Highlander forums...tried it on my Taco and the buzz in the wheel and pedal seem to be drastically reduced in the 1800 to 2300 rom range. Overall the engine seems very smooth throughout the entire rev range. Not Lexus smooth but smooth enough I wouldn't have ever noticed anything amiss.

Pictures should be self explanatory....it is a Toyota exhaust vibration dampener and runs about $31. It has two holes in it to mount and I used one of them with a generic 2.5" muffler clamp. I guesstimated where to put it based upon a picture I saw on the new highlander forums.IMG_0845.jpgIMG_0849.jpg

Lol. Fuck yeah. An acquaintance of mine asked if I could diagnose and repair a grinding sound coming from the rear of his '12 highlander. Turned out his pads were to bare metal. His rear diff seal was leaking. And his right cv was shot out. While I was under there doing the repairs, I saw that thing and I was like "wtf is this?" I considered that it COULD be a dampener. But I wasn't sure. Thanks for the confirmation

Interesting, it looks like a mass dampener. Am i correct, or is there more too it. Clever.

Really interested in this - is it just a bracket that bolts around the exhaust? Closer pics would be awesome. For $30 it'd be more than worth it. I've always suspected (and found in many cases) that the vibes are mostly exhaust-related... Thanks for sharing! Very clever

Edit: Too good to pass up, part ordered. Look forward to any additional details you can share re: install. Sounds like I need to pick up a 2.5" clamp from the local auto parts store.

See if these pics help. The damper feels like a heavy weight with rubber in the middle. It has two holes for mounting and I just used one of them. I first tried it closer to the muffler and it was not as effective, then moved it to where it is and am satisfied with the result. My buzzy vibe got better with the cps replacement and 91+ octane but this seemed to be the most effective. Maybe a different location will work better for some, but I thought I would try the pipe closest to the steering column.

Google the part number for a better look.IMG_0850.jpg IMG_0851.jpg

I also was a victim of vibrations. I cleaned my MAF sensor and it smoothed out 85-90% of the vibrations and sounds.

It is my belief that the manufacturing process of the MAF sensor does not include a final cleaning phase to the thermistor sensors. So i think that they are covered in a film of fine oil/solder flux once they are "finished"

I've gotten a lot of the vibes out of my truck as well between MAF, CKP(CPS), and securing a cable that was responsible for a big part of the vibes in my gas pedal, but the vibes are still there they just aren't nearly as annoying as they used to be. I'll be installing this part this week once I get it and report back. One step closer...

Just look under the truck around your TC. This cable that's wrapped in metal (assume a heat shield) was rattling against my TC - kind of resting on it. I still have vibes in the steering and a little in the gas pedal, but that throbbing sort of vibe at 2k that drove me nuts my first 6-7 months of ownership was DRASTICALLY reduced by securing that cable. I just used some silicone to adhere the cable to the body so it wouldn't rattle but @splitbolt I believe had a more elegant solution that I'll probably redo it with when I have the time.
