If 300,000 have been produced then that's roughly 10%, they may add more later after they are caught up on parts too.

Must be because he knows that you will be bugging him in a day or so... He wants to finally be the first to identify an issue with YOUR truck, that he knows quite well...hehe

    Good for him...!!

Smitty's BFF at Toyota.... it's probably why he still has the truck. He knows any of his concerns will be addressed immediately and/ or beforehand.

Invite that BFF Service manager out for a few weekends on your hunt trips or outings. He needs the full experience.

He's been trying to get me some Diamondbacks tickets because he knows my wife and I like to go to the games. The owner of the Auto Group has season seats behind the dugout that they often give away.

My parts guy is telling me the 89 is the affected sensor, 98 is the good sensor. When he looks up my VIN it's showing 98 is the part number for my truck, indicating it had the new sensor installed. Those who've been replacing their old sensors with 89 are just replacing bad parts with more bad parts.

    Same as on the box.

Probably so in my case. I got this thing early on before the announcement of how they were ID'd.

Huh... just checked my truck is not affected by the recall.
Seems like I've avoided ALL recalls to date by VIN, yet still have some of the symptoms: i.e, weeping diff, occasional stumble on acceleration.
I might just order the CPS to keep in the glove box and play it safe.

    Same here..but no weeping diff

Even though it's not the superseded part #, and mine isn't on the list, good insurance for JIC situation.

Have to carry a 300LB set of Snap-On Tools every time you plan to go off pavement in this truck. It shouldn't be that way with a new Tacoma damn it.

Label on the box is where I've seen it.

Maybe @Jeff Lange can shed some light on the new CKP part number.

    Thank you, let's hope so.
Either way, I think I've gone past the return period for this item. It should still work if needed since it hasn't been heat or electronically cycled. Enough to get me out of a jam should the CPS fail.

Well, my truck runs infinitely better after replacing my bad sensor with another bad sensor for now - the old ones major issues surfaced over time, after around 7-8k miles. Whats concerning to me is that if the 89 sensor was the "bad" design, they were still manufacturing those bad boys well into April based on the mfg date on my part... but perhaps the part is the same across other vehicles which don't have the excessive anticorrosion coating. I'm looking forward to hearing some reviews from folks on here when they get it replaced with the newer one.

Biggest thing I noticed was better / more accurate fuel delivery (mpgs increased significantly too) and lower vibrations. But I'm still on no recall list whatsoever... hilarious.

Didn't you mention the same effect by cleaning MAF also?

I'd love to know what sensor my truck had (since the actual part number isn't on the sensor itself). I can see it now - truck drove terribly, but had the "new" sensor and is why I'm not on a recall list. replaced with the old sensor and magically truck started driving like it should... none of it makes sense.

Yes. Did both. MAF first, helped a TON with vibes and airflow. I did that specifically when I started watching dashboards while driving and it was idling really rough and my MAF was reading 40g/s (should be like 2-6) at idle even w/o AC on and I had to apply WOT just to move the truck. It was confused. I pulled into my garage and could smell strong sulphur smell as well which is when I started researching and cleaning the MAF. After that, the truck did drive much better overall and you could just tell it was breathing better on startup, etc., At that point I had resigned myself to live with the rest (16ish MPG averages) and weird throttle but some of the issues persisted. And even though my MAF readings were back in the range of normal, I did smell fuel sometimes - one time pulling into a campground and everyone instantly saying "is that gas? smelled it when you pulled in" and sure enough I could smell fuel from the exhaust. Then replacing the CKP and my steering got smoother especially, MPGs increase, and vibes further decreased. So yes, similar additive results from both items but the CKP made it drive like a "new" truck should whereas the MAF clean calmed me off the ledge.
