I've put 300k+ miles on 3 second gen tacos, and I finally had CEL pop up on my 2008. Not too bad i'd say. Just bought 2nd gen #4, a 2014 OR DCSB, so getting a good scanner will be a useful tool.

Using the search I've seen several mentioned, but I always just like to ask questions like this straight out : For those of you who have and use one on a regular basis, which is your favorite?

    TIA!

If you're an Android user - $12 Veepeak bluetooth on Amazon. For basic stuff pair it with Torque Pro and the Torque Scan plug in. For Toyota Enhanced Diagnostics pair with ODB Fusion and buy their Toyota add-on.

I do have Torque Pro and love it but does one obd2 link send it more data than another?

Thanks for the responses. I'm an apple user, and had looked at ODBII Auto doctor and Engine link, which seems a bit like torq pro. Any of you guys have any experience with these? I was hoping to find something that would go as deep as the ABS/ Traction control system codes as well. I know some of these setups can't do this. I'm actually a bit inclined towards a PC based solution.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I'm pretty open minded, but dont mind spending for a really good scanner (within reason)

Do you want scan/diagnose/reset, or do you want to monitor outputs while driving and also read/reset codes?

Do you have a laptop? A smart phone?

It matters which unit might work best for you.

Torque pro. I like that the interface is customizable. Have yet to have a CEL but its nice having all temp readings on my phone

Laptop mostly, just because I archive so much of my maintenance activity on my network drive on an excel workbook. I'm mostly looking for diagnostics, scanning, and resets. The real time monitoring thing is neat, but it would really just be a luxury, not a requirement.

This is my setup too... Works very well, you can create multiple profiles in Torque Pro for all your vehicles and switch between them, either moving the adapter to each vehicle, or buying another adapter while still using the Torque app. I've gone as far as creating custom PID's for my F150 that track everything I need when towing, which I've found invaluable!

x3...I have this setup also. The only thing I'm still trying to figure out is if it will read Transmission temps for our trucks. When I try to add the reading, it shows as inactive/no data available...unlike eng coolant temps or ambient air temps that are green for available data.

Same here...I use the FoSeal OBDII wifi plug though. I don't recommend the FoSeal one, it causes the ABS light to blink like crazy if you have it plugged in before starting up your truck. Not sure if all OBDII scanners do that but it's annoying.

If you're a little tech savoy you can use Toyota TechStream from a 64bit windows based laptop. It will allow you to scan for codes beyond a basic ODB-II scanner (like ABS codes etc). Everything you need including instructions on how to install the software is listed below in the link. I did this to diagnose/repair and clear ABS codes.

Assuming you have a laptop with a 64bit version of windows on it already, all you need to purchase is a MINI VCI cable for TOYOTA ( https://www.amazon.com/Software-Tec...pons&keywords=MINI+VCI+cable+for+TOYOTA&psc=1 )

I recently bought the android only version of the Veepeak https://www.amazon.ca/Veepeak-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner-Android/dp/B011NSX27A and bought Torque Pro. So far it seems to be giving me all the data I want including transmission temps. the big test for it will be next week when i haul 3000 lbs for 300km

Interesting, any negatives to leaving it plugged in all the time? I read about battery drain but seems far fetched to be a real issue.
