Just last week I bought a 2017 Tacoma Limited and since it does not have mud flaps, I am looking for something to protect the rear fenders from rock chips. Can step bars help block flying rocks from the front tires? I have been looking at n-fab's with the 3 inch tubes, but I can't tell how far they stick out.

I guess it could help a bit but I wouldn't count on it too much. Why don't you get some mud flaps ?

As the above poster pointed out, they wont really help, mud flaps would be better.

I like the way it looks without the mud flaps.

    all tore up already
N fab bars definately catch a fair number of rocks and other stuff. How much of it would have hit my truck im not sure but the sound is distinct when pebbles hit them.

Well then prepare for chips bud. Just the way it is, especially if you move to a more aggressive tire.

What about rock sliders? Are there any that would protect the rear fenders and not cost an arm and a leg?

Sliders, running boards etc will not give you protection from rocks or the same protection mudflaps/rockbloks would. The best option would be mudflaps or rock bloks, without YOU WILL GET ROCK CHIPS. Its a truck bud not a mercedes...

I like the look without mud flaps too, but too many rocks flying everywhere even with stock tires. Mud flaps cut down on it, but some still get by at times.

Hey OP...Flaps help close to the tires only... I've got OEM aluminum boards (plastic covered) and they do work.... all the way down the side. I would still get flaps. I've had these on my 2006 Taco and now on the 2016... I love 'em. That's why they are on there.... crap does not hit my paint....and it also helps with the dingbats opening doors beside you...
