What is a realistic discount to look for on the sticker of a new Tacoma? Iam located in the upper south(Ky). I have noticed these trucks do hold their value better than anything else I've driven. Thank you

Try websites like Edmundds or others, put in the truck and accessories you want and dealers will make offers. It worked great for my wife's CRV, I got too excited and bought my Tacoma too quickly. I should have waited for a better deal.

If you have auto insurance with a big company , use their auto finding tool and you'll normally get a pretty accurate idea of what to expect in your area. I ended up 2k under the price from my insurance company, but their price was 2k under the best any Toyota was giving me when haggling without that reference. Good luck

I got my discount for the accessories (20%) and install including TRD wheels, install and re-align. That was worth over a grand. Also my 2013 TRD Baja got me 23,000, so I saved off the retail on the '17. We were both happy.

I looked at Tacoma's for years, and the few times I discussed pricing with a dealer, got turned off by the fact that they simply wouldn't negotiate on the price. You'd be lucky to get $500 off MSRP. I stopped considering them for a long time (last I looked at them was before you could haggle over the Internet :D), but when the Gen 3 came out, my interest grew, primarily due to the increased ground clearance on the 2WD version, which I believe is the same as the 4x4.

I contacted the Internet departments of my 5 closest dealers, and put the feelers out. One of them came back with a price on an SR quad-cab that had just rolled off the delivery truck that surprised me, because it was $2K less than the other dealers, all of which were within $500 of each other. The initial quote was around $4K off MSRP, and I ended up negotiating an additional $1K off. Never did I believe they'd negotiate to this extent on a Tacoma, so I bought it. I spoke to the GM and told him I'd be sending a couple of friends his way, and he did say that this was a one-time deal, and they would not match it for anyone else.

As part of my deal, they're installing keyless entry, and the service manager called and said I need to make the appointment before the end of the month so they can close out this particular transaction so they don't carry a loss into August.

Probably just blowing smoke up my skirt, but who knows.

Good luck getting a discount in the area. The demand is pretty high here.

Come to AZ, the Turd gen Tacomas are overflowing on the lots. Also plenty of used ones to buy.

Originally not Expo AF! Kinda Expo AF now...lame.
Keep in mind that deep discounts are mainly why other brands DON'T hold their value. Stoked you got 10k off that new Ford? But upset that when you went to trade it in you got nothing? That's because EVERYONE got 10K and essentially the realized (actual) price of that vehicle is much lower than expected price.

It's a bit of a pain, but the main reason Toyota's hold their value is only partially due to "reliability." Mostly it's a factor of minor discounts, therefore resell is typically higher because you can't go out and buy one with 10k off the sticker. Essentially, you get good resale partially because you get terrible initial discounts.

Still, would be nice to get a great deal on a new one.

probably was trying to make month/quarterly numbers for the toyota sales goal kickback.

my local just has a set price and deals in volume, they make more money hitting sales numbers for the kickback than trying to fight for the best profit per vehicle. easier to depend on a steady income than wild ride of per vehicle profit.

sales person makes $250 per finance, $350 per lease flat. then if they hit personal sales goal each month they get a kickback from the dealer for helping in the overall goals that earns the dealer a corporate kick back on sales.

cant remember if the 1st tier is 8 per month and then 13 per month for 2nd tier for individual sales kickback.

Dealers here in Phoenix area and also in the Seattle area will do $500 over invoice fairly routinely if you talk to the right people. Don't deal with the front line sales guys cruising the lots. If you do, you're going to be dealing with about 4 middle men all trying to get a cut of the pie. Watch out for taxes, fees and all of the sneaky dealer adds that are 100% fluff to make a profit... "paint protection", "glass etching", yadda yadda

They're giving away Nissan titans up here in New England. 10k+ off.

Back in March I got just over $2k off on mine. Costco price would have been $1.5 k off.

I was tempted by the Nissan Frontier, because they can be had for thousands less than a Tacoma, but with a completely new 2018 on the way, values of the 2017's are going to nose-dive in my opinion. Plus, it's an extremely dated design, albeit a pretty capable platform. I hate to admit it, but Toyota really knocked it out of the park by raising the ground clearance on the 2WD models.

There is a sticky thread that has the 3rd gen invoice prices here. A high volume dealership will still make money at or below invoice, so ...
