top 3 colors you will see every 2nd or 3rd car :

    1. white (25%)
    2. black (19%)
    3. silver (19%)

    4. grey (12%)
    5. red (10%)
    6. blue (10%)

    7. brown (2%)
    8. green (1%)
    9. gold/biege/yellow (1%)
    10. orange (1%)

    all above = 100%

added the 4th to give an idea of the jump from 4th to 3rd and added the percentage to each color.

avg vehicles sales in the usa is around 16 mil since 2012

if you take the top 3 (63%) thats about 10 mil vehicles that are the top 3 colors.

edit : changed the total vehicles to correct number avg from 2012 to 2017 (low of 14mil to high 18mil)

Same here. As much as I liked the inferno color, I was afraid I'd get tired of it. And I'm always afraid red is going to fade, so I didn't go Barcelona.

I kind of liked quicksand when it came out. I used to have a pyrite, so I'm not afraid of 'unusual' colors, but the more I see quicksand, the less I like it. I was actually on the lot the other day trying to pick out my next color, between silver, gray or quicksand. I realized I was spending way too much time trying to convince myself the quicksand looks good to me, and I couldn't do it. I kept thinking 'old man color', and I'm not that far from being one, so...lol

I love the gray, but it is only one step away from black as far as keeping clean. I could see the dust clearly on the gray, while the silver beside it looked spotless. I love Barcelona, but I've already done that color. So, unless they come out with a new color before my Rav4 lease is up, silver will probably get the nod. With the right accents it looks amazing to my eyes.

I really liked the Silver, but it has a reputation for going bad in the sun, and my truck won't fit in my garage, which is killing me. Hopefully the new paint formulations prevent a lot of issues faced in the past. I'm major, and I mean major OCD, and it's killing me leaving the truck in the elements. I figured white may hold up the best from that perspective. Plus, my weekend driver is a really rare and unusual color, so I figured I'd play it safe with the truck.

silver hides dirt the best, i had a silver legacy 3.6R and didnt wash it almost 2 years, never really looks too dirty.

i've had my silver 4runner since dec-2013 and its outside in the sun/winter up here from 6am to 5pm 5 days a week. still looks like good to this day.

ps: i dont take care of the paint (no wax since i bought it) only the oem paint protection package and i take it thru carwashes as i am too lazy to wash by hand.

I've had a silver Rav4 for 2 years, never waxed it, washed it maybe twice, and it still looks new.

Had multple black/dark blue vehicles. If its a garage/mall queen, hard to beat the look.

Silver is overplayed. Every marquee is loaded with it. Hides normal dirt ok, if thats your goal.

Quicksand is different, trims up nice. If left 'as is' from showroom, a bit bland.

White was my call. Simple, non attention grabbing, easy to maintain.

I wanted Inferno and wound up with silver. Couldn't be happier. I get mine in the brush all the time and the scratches don't show as much. But that's the only reason I voted what I did.

I bought Quicksand but its my second choice. I wanted yellow but Toyota didn't agree with my choice. I will tell you though the Quicksand hides the dirt extremely well, my truck is never going to see a garage and I work next to a gravel pit its almost never clean. I wash it on Friday knowing on Monday it gets the dust bowl treatment. I don't wash it as often as I should.

I agree with your breakdown of colors and percentages, but annual sales since 2012 are way more than 7.5 million, 2015 and 2016 were roughly 17.5 million sales each.

Coming from an all black wrx, I loved it when it was clean, hated it when it was dirty. I am just too damn lazy to get another black car as I wouldn't detail it often enough. I was in between QS, MGM, and Silver. What model would you be getting? Reason I ask is because if you go OR, take into consideration the contrast between the black wheel wells and front bumper with your paint color. I went with MGM because the ole battle axe at home hated QS.
