Truck runs bad after plugs and MAF

Did you drop any plugs? Over tighten any of them? They can easily crack and cause a misfire, even when new. You may have to remove them all and inspect.

I've cleaned Toyota MAF's for years with numerous chemicals and I've yet to ruin one, I doubt yours is damaged.

And obvious things, ensure the 10mm ground under the old OBD connector is secured and all vacuum hoses are good and that the intake is secured on the throttle.

IMO, the fact that it is running smoothly in Open Loop rules out the issue being plugs or the plug wires.

 

I did infact drop one but visually it checked out ok. I'll try the battery disconnect again before I get that code read

 

Codes.

 

On my '99 2.7, the MAF sensor housing also includes a temp sensor. Is it possible that you damaged that while cleaning the MAF ?

Get the code(s) before throwing parts at it.

 

Update...

Cause of the issue was carelessness. Bought a scanner and got 2 P0302 codes for a cylinder 2 misfire. Pulled that plug and the gap between the electrode and ground was bridged. With what you might ask??? ANTI-SIEZE. Cleaned it with brake cleaner and a nylon bristle brush. Trucks runs smoother now but still a little rough. Think I'll just change out that plug.

Your check engine light (CEL) generates codes that can be read with an ODBII reader.

 

Why are we posting 1 word posts? I can understand the maf one ("I say it's the maf")

But the one that just says "codes".... I don't get it.

 

He's basically asking "Did you pull the codes?" or "What are the CEL codes?"

eek... anti sieze on the plugs, from you or the factory. There is a debate on anti siezing plugs in water cooled aluminum heads, air cooled, no problem.
you said you dropped a plug? In the high end shop I used to work at putting in a spark plug that was dropped was a terminable offense. The potential motor damage from a piece of porcelin breaking off at high rpm might be a $25k motor or a $75k motor... for a $10 plug, it doesnt pencil out.

X2 on disconnecting battery. Need to reset ECU. It may take a while for engine / ECU to learn.
