    Hello Fellow Tacoma Owners,

Does anyone own tacomas here that are 2WD?

    Really regret not going 4 x 4

And jealous of all the trails people have posting. Just a general question

Yes I own a 2wd no locker. It just makes it more fun and challenging to see what you can get the truck to do. Most 4wd guys will tell you they rarely need it. It makes stuff easier and can get you farther than a 2wd. With proper line and momentum your little truck will get you to some outstanding places. Add a locker to It and even better. You will be able to do 75 percent of what 4wd can do. Steep hills with loose rocky terrain will not be your friend and neither will mud. Good mud will get any vehicle stuck. Enjoy your truck and see what it can do, I bet you'll be surprised.

someone told me once that you can still get stuck in a 4x4 but its usually further off the main road where help is harder to find.

    Jealousy is an expensive mistress.

Buy for how you use a vehicle 85-90% of the time. Not what you might do someday.

I have a two wheel drive 2005 and have only needed an assist once since I got it. It was in a grass / muddy parking lot and a simple push from a friendly passer-by was my 4 wheel assist.

Less problems and better mileage. I don't go off road so it suits me well.

Now I just wait for the head gasket leak between 4 and 6 :frusty:

All I do with my truck is tow a small utility trailer and occasionally throw some landscaping supplies on the back. I dont go off-road so 4wd would have been a waste for me, just more parts to need maintenance and break.

I do like the ground clearance of my Pre-Runner though, since the streets in my town are prone to flooding during heavy rain.

^ this. In the 3.5 years I have owned my truck I have found myself needing 4WD 1 time. I just went around a different route.

Now, would I be doing *more* if I had 4wd? Maybe, but I doubt it. I go where I want to go, when I want to go.

4wd is definitely nice to have and superior to 2wd, but you can still take a 2wd off-road. Good tires, decent suspension, a locker and some skill will get you pretty far. You might have to hit certain parts a bit faster and there will be some hills you just can't climb, but there are plenty of 2wd friendly trails.

Give me a set of paddles in the sand and I'm ok with 2wd.

I have a 2wd 2006 and have done a lot of easy trails in southern California with no issues. But here's it's dry and mostly flat. Fire roads all over big bear and Arrowhead area are a blast. Good tires, decent suspension, recovery gear for piece of mind and a HAM radio to call for help in an emergency would be good ideas
