    Rob here. purchased a 2014 Tacoma double cab V6. Do all the 4x4 V6 double cab Tacoma's pull 6,200 pounds.

    Love my truck. So much.

    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
    6500 lbs only with oil and tranny coolers (part of the official towing package) - and as far as I can tell on auto transmissions only for the 16/17 models (as per the 6-speed owners manual).

    There are after market tranny and engine oil coolers and such- that would be the hardest part of the upgrade I would think. Mechanically it's the same engine- right? You just wouldn't be getting the Sway control, but a good weight distribution hitch would take care of it.

    I'm sure you could but it's a good deal of stuff to add. Oil and tranny coolers, receiver hitch, 7 pin connector, wiring into the cab for brake controller, relays under the hood, 130 amp alternator and a larger battery. It won't be cheap. This is assuming you have a auto.

    What are you looking to tow?

    I'm not sure of the engine compression and torque for yours, is it the same as the 16/17's?

    Is yours automatic? If so, you could add a second tranny oil cooler as it has one in the radiator already. The manual tacos do not obviously have it and are rated at 3500 Lbs.

    I have found a thread where it pretty much states better to a Taco with the tow package installed. Expensive to add everything after the fact. Oil cooler etc

    There's a 4.0? I'm curious how that compares in compression/torque to the newer 3.7's...

    Me too it drives like a bat out of hell. But I'm pulling in oregon up over the Cascade Range. So it's hard on transmissions.

    I need a truck big enough to tow the boat over the mountains but still fit in a downtown parking garage

    The 4.0 is much better for towing than the 3.5 because it has more torque lower in the rpm range

    This is false. Manual tacos can tow as much as the automatic ones. Those just didn't get the tranny cooler because they don't need it. I have a 2010 manual and added the tow package myself, wasn't a big deal
