Speaker upgrade

I have a 2013 regular cab 4 by 4 Toyota Tacoma. I'm wanting to upgrade the stereo system. Any recommendations as far as speaker replacement and possible radio replacement. It has the factory touch screen JBL radio in it now. Will that be sufficient as far as handling the new door speakers and tweeters and then possibly getting two tens and an amp? I want to get the best sound possible in this small cab.

And all you need is a small flatbar of aluminum cut n drill 2 holes for mounting on the stock Tweeter location.

Class D amp will easily fit under the seat i would assume. Pair that with really any decent 6.5" speakers and you're golden.

I personally did a class D Image Dynamics amp paired with Image Dynamics speakers/tweeters.

 

At first i thought you were beeing an asshole.... then i looked up and went.... wow, ok thats a bitching username.

 

If you care about mid bass, then don't go with basic speaker adapters. Basic adaptors or the free Crutchfield style speaker apapters don't seal the speaker to the door and leave lots of air gaps. And they are flimsy...so the adapter will actually flex while the speaker is playing.

The ********* adaptors may be overpriced, but they are ridgit and give the speaker a solid mount. If the speaker is free to move in a flimsy adaptor, the mid bass freq's just get robbed.

You could make good mdf or abs adaptors yourself...but it falls into the category of either spending 5-6 hours + multiple trips to the hardware store or just spending the money for something quality and doing it right the first time.

Also, if you are doing a full stereo, plan out everything with the stereo goals in mind from the start before buying anything.

 

I surrounded and sealed my speakers/adapters with sound deadener, it worked great.

 

Couldn't you just run a bead of butyl rubber under to adaptor to seal it to the door?

 

I sealed the speaker / adapter and adapter / speaker seams with some stick on foam tape. Mainly just to get rid of any vibrations that may occur.

That stated, the entire back of the speaker is open to the inside of the door that is not sealed, so making sure those seams are sealed doesnt change a thing.

Next, the door itself is WAY more flimsy than the plastic speaker adapter.

 

I found a number of threads on this and similar topics when looking to do the same thing for my AC. The Audio & Video forum is a good place to start. Crutchfield is a good place to get an idea of what's available/suitable. Armed with that info, visit a (couple of) local shop(s) to listen to various combos. (In the end, it's about what sounds good to you, rather than what anyone else used.) Narrow your choices and buy from where you get the best "bang for your buck." FWIW, I went with the following, which I think sounds great...

I've got some vintage 6x9 triax from Boston Acoustics (anyone, anyone? Beuller?) laying around and can buy the rest.
The rears look to have room for 6x9 as does the front...
Can someone recommend what to use for fronts, tweets & rear?
Is an amp needed or just recommended? Is acoustic fabric needed or just recommend? I'm not a thumpy-thump music guy...
I'm also and old "do it once, do it right" guy so the above thread of Capt. Obvious Budget Sound is right up my ally. I"m on board with the wiring adapter stuff and speaker adapter stuff.

I'm looking for specific make/model replacements - I'm not an audiophile, just want to hear better.
For a budget price I'll say $200-$300 depending on speaker package/amp model. I'm open to all mfgr's for equipment but biased to the old names - Pioneer, JBL, etc.

Some of the "Class D", etc. talk is new to me so help there would be appreciated. Some help there would be nice.
