Anybody have any experience changing Oil Filter Housing 4L 2007

    My oil pressure sending sensor started leaking so in my attempt to change it I managed to snap a piece right off the housing. I've looked and looked for some info on changing this part and nothing, which tells me I may be the only dumb ass to do this.

    Anyhow, I have the old one out and am waiting for the parts. I ordered from Toyota Parts Direct and while the price was decent it is going to end up taking almost 2 weeks to get. Ordered last Thursday and due Tuesday next week.

    I am looking for any advice on how to get this together without any mishaps, I am not terribly good mechanically but follow directions real well. Do i need to use anything like thread lockers or gasket material to put it back together?

    Any tips or advice is welcome.

    What piece broke off the housing? Did you get the entire old sensor out?

    Where the sensor screws in is where it broke. The sensor didn't break but the housing did. It is 100% broke and not fixable. I ordered another new sensor in case I find the other one is broke. I still have to find it in the skid plate somewhere. Truck has been parked since it happened. Driving my 99 Xplorer to work since.

    So the metal housing is what broke?

    Yep #13. On the front left side of it there is an oil pressure sending unit. Not sure if i cross threaded it or what but the corner of the housing broke right off. If you have the 4L you can see it right beside the oil filter

    Should be fairly straight forward, I would blast out the threaded holes with brake cleaner or the like to prevent the hydraulic effect that may have caused you to snap the first housing. Clean clean clean everything you can, and generally if it keeps oil from leaking Toyota want's you to apply FIPG to some degree, it's about $10 a tube on Amazon and has a million other uses. Made by 3 Bond, you could also use Black RTV but I find it doesn't last as long or seal as well.

    Depending on mileage of your engine, you should seriously consider a new O-ring. Or a silicone as mentioned above.

    Just a few bolts and nuts, and it will slide right off of the two studs. That sensor uses a metric thread. If you were curious.

    The arrow directly above the #13, points to a plug. That is interestingly an SAE thread pitch.
