That low wage worker doesn't have 3k lying around to get such a low monthly payment.

These lease deals are attractive to those who don't know how to negotiate and buy a gently used vehicle or maintenance it properly if need be.

Just because your taco is paid off doesn't mean you won't have expenses. Cars break. We all know that. The day it's paid off it's likely worth a fair bit still but you already paid for that value so it's like you put $40k in a savings account and only have $25k if you wanted it. Each day that goes by you have less value there. Of course, this is fine. It's how autos work. You pay to use it. Pay a lot for a short time and then a little as you use and maintain it. Or you can pay a little at a time and since it's under warranty let others fix it. And then if you happen to get in an accident or hail damage or something you'll end up screwed when the insurance company gives you less than it's worth. No one has to like or agree that a least is great, but at the very least agree that a lease is actually a good option for some people.

Yes, for those people that can't do math it's a good option.

My msrp was $37,150 or something like that. It was not much over $37,000. I got the buy rate on the money factor (honestly not sure what it was off the top of my head) and the lease actually went through a credit union instead of Toyota so the residual is $28000 and change. It would've been about $100 more a month if I had gone through toyota financial.

I'd rather keep/invest the 10-30k in cash in something that returns 10% a year than blowing it on a down payment and large monthly payments.

Lease all day for Tacoma's. Especially if you own a business.

You're either an idiot or too rich to care if you return a Tacoma to the dealership at the end of a lease term.

Guarantee I'm perfectly good at math and a lease calculator is easy to find and will do the math for you. It will give you total for the term as well and you can then weigh your options. Again, leasing is about those options not the cheapest road to BUYING. Plenty of people get ripped on buying as well. Why can't people get it through their heads that leasing isn't just about money. If someone wants a new car every three years leasing makes perfect financial sense and buying would be for those who can't do math. If you want to keep your truck for 10+ years then, yes, buy it. If you keep it much less than that then the math may or may not work out for buying. Keep it 5 years or less then you probably should have leased.

    Waste of time and money.
Toyota does not do much with leases for Tacoma's. It'll come down to the dealership to make it worth while.

Normally I'd skip threads like this. However when you're taking a good poop I figure why the hell not.

I switched to leasing because I live in a harsh north east climate and keeping a vehicle for 10 years isn't the best option.

When I got my toyota, leasing interest rates were a lot less than financing. Even if I opt to buy out I will not be paying more money. And the arguement that it'll take 8 years to own a leased vehicle is flawed, if you can finance a truck for 4 years then after your lease is up and the buyout is significantly less than the original purchase price was you should be able to finance the remainder over 3 years or less.

I'm not the one that awkwardly bragged about my credentials on the internet.

Also, now you guys are waffling on the math not working out saying "it's not about being cheapest! It's about the options".

Then again, it seems somewhat warranted considering this IS his lane as the ME degree would have some insight on the the mechanical practicality of a vehicles wear over time and obviously the associated repairs costs over time; as well as the blatantly obvious fact that working in auto-finance (Ya know, the topic at hand), means that in doing this for a living, he probably has a much better outlook on the pros and cons of leasing vs traditional loan financing options. Didn't really seems like awkwardly bragging if his creds pertain to the topic we are talking about. Technically that would make him a SME.....

I leased my 2017 TRD Sport double cab long bed. I pay $159.00 a month but i paid $4,000.00 out the door (includes all taxes and fees) MSRP was around $37K. I had a 2014 ram i brought back a month early and perfect credit which helps. I leased mine in December not sure if that helped either.

I lease and I enjoy it for the most part. I get to try new vehicles. I pay 379$ month on a 3 year lease. 0 down but had some equity on a previous 15 Tacoma. I am so glad I leased my truck because I am not too thrilled with it. I like it but I just cant seem to get myself to love it. So its 2 years and on to something else. I find it funny that when people start talking about leasing there is always someone who gets upset. My response is always the same;" Just be happy I'm not doing it with your money. Its my hard earned money and I will spend it the way I want to, Foolish or not."

I'm not waffling. I've said all along that leasing isn't the cheapest road to owning. It's a different approach to having and driving a vehicle and depends on your priorities.
