Looking for places to park my Taco with rooftop tent near a lake in the Sierras

Hey TW,

I have recently installed an ARB rooftop tent and the wife and I want to get away for a three day weekend in the Sierras. We just want to park the truck in a beautiful place and lounge and maybe hike a little. We want to be away from crowds and relax. Any info? Suggestions? Directions from Monterey, CA. Thanks.

 

Western Sierra's are crowded this time of year. Eastern not so much but a longer drive for you.

Might try to get a reservation here - wide campsites https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=455

http://scenic4.org/ has lot of out of the way places, most large RV's avoid it, trails, off road areas
Hermit Valley campground is free dispersed camping

Check out the East Fork of the Carson River- 4x4 down to the open hot springs on the forest road - I used to raft down from Markleville to get there, but many go overland.
