I just found a broken piece of plastic that comes from the front of the bed at the center by the top (below the sliding window). It appears to hold the tonneau steady, along with the screw. There are two similar plastic pieces on the tonneau and this piece fits between them. Has anyone else had this problem? I've never removed the tonneau but I fold it back at least once a week, and secure the folded sections.

I've an update. First, The pic shows the broken part I'm talking about. Second, I went to the dealer today and they said they need to order the part, it will arrive tomorrow, and it costs $72. I said, you mean this is not covered under warrante. She replied she would talk to her manager and see what she could do. My truck is less than 6 mos old and I've never removed the tonneau.

Yeah, the same thing got broken off of mine. I doubt it actually needed to support any weight of the cover, I think it just needed for centering the cover when installing on the bed.

Mine has been broken for a few months now, just been too lazy to go to the dealer to order a replacement (also it might just break off again if I take it on the trail). I might add it to the order when i order a few air filter at the dealer. but it would be crazy if they try to charge you 75bucks for it though.

Thanks DES2009 and Sleevez. If they do not pay I'll do it myself. I'm surprised it broke.

That isn't the part the OP is showing broke. I believe his pic shows the actual cover being broken.

Mine broke as well, not sure how really, just found part of it in the bed one day. Took me forever to find where it came from.

Could somebody trying to break into your cover cause this part to break ? , Seems odd that it would just break driving or sitting.

Look at the picture. It's the part bolted to the front of the bed that locates the tonneau cover. It's clearly broken in the picture. It's exactly the part that I'm posting.:anonymous::facepalm:

Slight flexing of the truck bed while driving over bumps could possibly cause that post to crack and break off over time.

That's not very Toyota like. I'm not sure how that got through the testing , but Then that would be a defect and covered in the warranty correct ?

One would like to think so. But maybe it was designed to break off? It's probably cheaper/easier to replace that post than to replace the corresponding part attached to the cover itself.

Yes, that's what he's saying. The part directly above the pan-head torx screw in the picture is the broken part. The part that juts out toward you like two BOOBS is part of the actual tonneau cover itself.

The piece pointed out by the arrow directly down from the light at the top of the cab in the picture below is the broken part. The two BOOBS on the tonneau fit over the top of the broken part, to help keep the cover centered on the bed.

My point was this pic is mostly the bottom of the cover. Right? I understand it also shows the broken post. The most prominent portion of the pic is the vagina, not the broken penis. Terms even you might be able to understand. :D

Buy the $5 penis part already.

My truck is less than 6 months old, 8000 miles, it should last longer than that.

I had the same problem with my Toyota tonneau cover.
I found the broken plastic peice in the bed of my truck at about 2k miles.
I brought it up at the local dealers service writer at my 5K service but they basically brushed it off and I got no information.
I found the part # here on TW and its a $5.00 part
I also discovered the bolt securing the cover was not torqued to spec. In fact I could turn the bolt with finger.
I believe the cover was loose, at some point I hit a bumb in the road and broke said "5 Dollar Penis Part"
