ok, thanks. We do tow through the desert a lot but not a lot of up and down, just a few climbs, lots of long slopes though, 150 miles of below sea level to 4000 ft.

Moving to Bishop, will be in Nevada a lot next year....

I recently began the same process and I highly recommend the scangauge2. I purchased mine at advance auto ant it was on clearance marked down to $139.

I also highly recommend pinning your thermostat when towing or in high temp conditions. Recently it has been in the 90s here so I tried it out and it greatly reduced my trans temps.

    Pic one is after pinning

    Pic two is before IMG_2360.jpgIMG_2352.jpg

I also plan on adding an auxiliary cooler soon for a cross county trip.

What codes are you using to get two tranny temps? And what year is your truck?

If you only need trans temp why not just go with a trans temp gauge with a sensor in the trans fluid out line? Much cheaper and my 2018 Taco has most of the other gauges that are on the scan gauge 2, just an idiot light for the trans temp.

Torque app with the OBD link is cheaper. I think I paid $5 bucks for the app and $12 for the OBD Elm and I didn't have to cut and modify.

I see people saying "tow in 4th only" so is that putting it in 4th manually and just leave it in 4th? New to my tacoma and the auto with a manual setting
    Thanks
