Is it a 5 lug or 6 lug truck?

If its 6 lug it requires the 8.4" rear differential.
If its a 5 Lug truck it needs a 8"

8.4's are found in 95.5-04 Tacoma and Tundra's (with exception of the 98 and newer TRD trucks with Elockers)
8" differentials can be found from 1985 forward. If you get an 8" from a pretacoma truck you will need a triple drilled pinion flange to work with your Tacoma drive shaft.

    Good luck.

You're right. I tend to forget all about the 7.5" dealing with mostly 4x4 units.

    Correction.

If its a 5 lug truck it will have a 7.5" with the 27 spline carrier. Still all 5 lug diffs should interchange with the correct pinion flange.

6 lug will have the 8.4...totally scratch the 8"
