Kitted up and ready to go! With the bikes on the roof rack, didn't take a pic yet, the truck is 9 feet tall!!

Also I attached the 2 bike mounts to a single width roof rack cross bar instead of a double. The difference being 4 screws instead of 2. I'm switching this over to a double width asap for the extra rigidity. We found a dirt road on the way here and you could hear some noise up there when it was a little rough

With both bikes on the single, it was moving around a bit more than I would care for. Lol

07/29/17 - After the drive to Dallas from Austin, I noticed some noises coming from the roof rack. I always use Waze when we are on paved roads and it directed me off the highway and onto a dirt road to subvert an accident and subsequent backup on I35. On that dirt road, the noise from the rack was pretty loud. We stopped and checked it out and although the bikes were secure to the racks cross bar, the cross bar itself was flexing and clanking off the one below it. It was a 1" x 1" bar and so I decided to swap it out for a 1" x 2" bar. The 2" bar has 4 screws instead of the 1"'s 2 and so it should help keeps things more stable up there.

Im so glad I brought tools and bits with me. The security screws are nice, but without the bit, i would have been nervous about it the whole trip.

Okay!! I have the itinerary for our first big expedition! My son and I take a trip every year and in the past have been to New York City, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Belize. This year, we are doing it totally different since I became obsessed with this truck, camping, and overland style travel. We will be back in Austin Saturday, 8/5/17, in the evening. I have sent out this plan to some family and friends and thought to share here as well.

We may have to change plans due to weather, road closures, or whatever comes up but this is basically what we will do.
