No kidding...They asked me if I wanted them to install them, and I politely said no...Took me all of 30 minutes at home...

I don't...I was pleasant with them the entire time, and they over-accommodated...Mutually beneficial...

Having dug deep into the guts of the SR (owning a Utility Package myself) you can figure out which corners Toyota cut to upsell trims, and which corners they cut to actually save $$ on a per-unit cost.

The lack of keyless is actually one of the latter. My understanding is the TPMS antenna and Keyless antenna share a module on higher trims. Unit cost ~$900 for the TPMS/Keyless module. On non-keyless Tacos, the unit is under $200. That actually represents a pretty substantial cost savings on Toyota's side, and on the SRUPs the fact that there are no seatbelts or seat cushions in the back accounts for a lot of the -$1,700 sticker price discount.

SRUP's have a gimped wiring harness that removes wiring for a lot of features they want to upsell you on, though. Of course I found a way around it myself. :D

Yep, I tried in vain to speak with someone at Toyota corporate to determine if the TPMS module with integrated key-less function would be a "plug-and-play" upgrade, but really couldn't get anywhere. I guess you just don't know how much the base model has in common, from a harness perspective, with the higher trims. I didn't know they offered a trim below my SR. I had no problem adding cruise and intermittent wipers. The key-less entry required a "Southeast Toyota" part that was evidently "approved" by Toyota, so it falls under the vehicles warranty when installed.

I have absolutely no regrets buying the SR and doing the upgrades. What I paid for it probably wouldn't have gotten me a Civic or Elantra!

Yeah, really the only way to know is to "take the plunge" ... or wait till 3rd gens start showing up at pick & pulls, or make very good friends with a dealer who will accept a return.

If it is plug and play I'd probably do it someday, but the lack of keyless doesn't really have me that fussed at this point.

Being in Florida, key-less is a nice-to-have, particularly when you have ADD and forget to lock doors all the time. If I had a dollar for every time I've locked my car through the window of a restaurant, watching the rain pouring down, I'd be retired in Monaco watching a crew wax my yacht.

Why not give your wonderful dealership some free publicity and name them, and tell us where they live, so everyone else can avoid the bastards!!

You also could have ordered the SR convenience package which would have given you Cruise control and remote keyless entry.

Yep , that's the easy part. I also had no trouble buying a new one and them taking my money. Now the fun begins let's hope you don't have to make that drive back to the service department

I agree with OP- It’s how bad our country has become as far as customer service and actually caring about doing a great job. This is found from someone working fast food all the way up to a surgeon. Most people in the work place now come from the “ everyone gets a trophy” no matter how you performed and think just showing up is good enough. Okay I’ll shut up now...sorry.
    Glad it all worked out.

I inquired about that, but the deal was on the that just rolled off the truck. It would have been a lot more to order one.
