When I push on the door lock rod, I can hear it engaging within the actuator, but still doesn't open.

Op, have you confirmed that the rod from the door handle is connected properly?

I'm realizing now that I thought you were referring to the vertical door handle lever. I see now the actual door "lock" rod (horizontal). I'll try engaging that to see if it'll release.

The rod from the door handle appears to engage the actuator fine. I can even manually do it with my hand. Still doesn't open.

I manually turned the knob from the door lock and it engaged the actuator, but still didn't open. I can't remember if the front passenger one had a child lock or not. I know that back does.

Looks like I'm screwed. Any suggestions? How do I drill it out if I have to go that route?

the front doesn't have a child lock as far as i know. can you take the actuator off or discount the rod from it? then maybe pull like hell on that rod. Sorry OP i have never looked that close at the locks

Have you tried lifting up on the door while you try to open it? Last resort, go inside the door with a drill and swiss cheese the latch til it falls apart. Don't drill too deep and make holes in the door.

The horizontal rod from the lock is in place and I can't remove it. The vertical rod for the handle is attached, and I can manually push on the actuator lever that it's attached to, but no dice.

Installed new hood with "hood-scoop". Installed Predator Side Steps. Replaced front chrome grill with customized color matched (Desert Sand Mica) grill with added TOYOTA lettering (also in matched color), installed and secured tailgate anti-theft devices. Also installed a new external TPMS monitor for all 4 tires.
Maybe to give your more or less an idea of how the whole door lock-actuator functions, why not remove the opposite drivers side door panel then while opening and closing the door handle and unlocking, etc. to see how it all operates as a functioning unit?

Hopefully this is give you incentive on how to approach unlocking your door on the passenger side door?

Update: I ultimately had to drill into the actuator to release the lock. Was able to purchase a new one from Rockauto for only $147. Not too bad. I still saved around $800 not going to the dealership. Still a win....and lesson learned about ensuring the linkage is working properly before closing the door.

    Thanks all for your input.

    Best,

    Mike

I've used this same trick with a long flat tool of some kind a few times. Good advice.

Wow!....it's good to know that you got that issue resolved.

Hey I'm with you about spending $147.00 (heck that's nothing) rather than $800+ on what the damn dealership wanted. You definitely saved yourself a lot of $.

FUCK THE DEALERSHIP!...BECAUSE ALL THE DEALERSHIP IS CONCERNED ABOUT IS FUCKING OVER THE CUSTOMER AND JUST MAKING AS MUCH $ OFF THE CUSTOMER, WHETHER SELLING PARTS OR SELLING A VEHICLE AND THAT'S IT!....SO FUCK'EM!

So how do you really feel about the dealership?

I got a really good deal on spark plugs and oil filters today at mine. $3/ plug and $4 oil filter.... beats any auto parts store.
