Can one of you show a pic? I'm very curious how it mounts.

Not a fan of bug deflectors in general, and I think the rivets commit you. But as other have said, to each their own -- and I'm sure for many a deflector is more about function than appearance.

They don't bother me at all. To each their own. I had one on my old '00 Tundra for 15 years before I got rid of it. It wasn't clamped down to the hood though, just attached to the top with that 3m double sided super sticky stuff and had small rubber stopper things on the underside of the top so if the wind was strong enough to blow it down, the plastic didn't slam into the hood.

No idea how much they actually help.. as I always still had exploded bug guts all over my windshield, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to rocks/other debris etc living up here in MA/New England with our winters and other random weather. Always tons of sand and/or small rocks in the roads.. or bits of concrete / paving material from having roads done that gets flung all over the place by peoples tires.

I haven't purchased one for my '17 Tacoma, but I've contemplated it.

Well I had one on a 99 Tacoma and I wasn't female last time I looked, but it didn't save my windshield.

Did I screw up? I installed the AVS model that uses 3m tape on the hood. :annoyed:

This particular deflector is almost 5 years old and is on it's 2nd Taco. So it's possible the design has changed...though I doubt it.

It mounts in a series of existing holes on the underneath side of the hood. It comes with grommets that insert into those holes.....and screws that thread into those grommets. Very simple.

I took the deflector off to show zero damage to the hood. It's been on this particular rig for just over 2 years.

Thanks for that! With one designed like that, I can definitely see it helping to block rocks as well. I was basing my statement off the one on my truck that the PO put on, and I assumed all designs are the same.

    Perhaps there's a difference between G2 and G3 applications. Couldn't tell you.

Personally, I wouldn't install one that made any contact with any part of the hood

The one I'm referencing was on a 2005. I believe it was an AVS? Not sure. Looked like it'd been on there awhile, so it was probably just an older design.

I wouldn't have bought one but my truck has one from factory and the black works well with the white paint as a contrast in addition to the OR black flares.

Could be, my friend. I can only speak for my particular situation.

Seems like 5 years ago when I installed it on my '13 it included some clear tape to protect the hood even further from any contact. But frankly, I don't remember exactly where the tape was placed. I do remember thinking there would be no chance of contact wherever that tape was.

I didn't even bother worrying about it on my '15. No issues with hood damage as you can see from the pix.

I'm sure it keeps a few bugs off the windshield. But the reason I bought it was hood protection and aesthetics. It contrasts nicely with the white

Here is the AVS aeroskin 2. It sits flush with double sided tape. The mat black finish matches the rest of the off road trim. The bump in the middle actually works for keeping bugs off the windshield. I recently drove to Sacramento which usually covers the windshield in bugs. Nothing on it with the deflector. A little less wind noise as well.IMAG4334.jpg

This is what I am looking for. A bug shield that will attach to hood with screws with zero drilling. What brand model is this one? I dont want to use 3m tape to stick to hood
