I used this for the first time this weekend. My Taco shifts were crisper, quicker and smoother than ever. I had better acceleration in lower gears. I have to ask, why wasn't this stock instead of an added switch? I have a feeling it's because it gets poorer mpg.

Most Toyotas have had this feature since the 90s. Its just more exaggerated because of the pseduo atkinson power paired with the OEM ecu tune.

The ect remaps the shift points and puts the motor in direct injection in Otto cycle instead of running Atkinson. Basically they do that for fuel economy reasons

I use to think it just stayed in gear longer but noticed the gas pedal was very touchy. Now that I know its there, I don't mind driving without it. Seems the less attention you pay to the trans. the less it bothers me.

Thats how I think of it. Try to drive the truck the way it likes to be driven instead of trying to force the mentality of "all cars should drive like X" and you'll be much happier.

Nope. It appears from my testing it actually gets better gas mileage in city driving. I won't know for sure for another couple of months. Ran with it on the first month. Off the second month. Running with it on this month (just started this past week). Will run with it off next month. My months started on my purchase date, not the caledar beginning of the month.

I disliked it's engine braking in low speed scenarios. I prefered to use it 80kph+

You are right. ECT will keep you from lugging the motor when towing. With the 3.5l, the extra revs, of the ECT mode, give a nicer part throttle acceleration, but you will consume a little more gas.

I use it all the time in the Western NC hills and always get 18-20+ MPG. Unless I'm on the highway at 60+ I use ECT and S mode.
