I'm good on the essentials you listed, except for a water can. I'll add that to the list. Fridge would be cool, but I think that will be future wishlist item for me. I don't have the extra cash/time to make that a reality before the trip.

 

There are many water options. This is the one I use. It has held up thru several years of abuse. But I've read recent reviews that suggest they aren't as durable as they used to be.

I guess in my mind I was thinking of the insignificant things like a headlamp. A simple item that makes life easier and is maybe something I'm just overlooking in the sense of a week outing with vehicles is all.

I liked mikes response because a fridge would make life easier in that atmosphere. I'm just not in the position to make that happen ATM.

As far as attitude goes, you pretty much have to be an egotistical jackass for me not to get along with you. I don't get that vibe from you guys and if I did I wouldn't consider making the trip. I'm in it for the adventure. I like to explore and take the road less traveled and learn something I may not have otherwise.

 

@BossFoss I would 2nd Ben's mention of a loo. Something to sit on is nice but it also requires a wag bag of some sort too.

Dealing with garbage is something else that is important. Leave no trace in all these places we go.

Trash roo is handy even without a spare tire though as you can put a plastic bag in it and then not worry about it getting torn open. I do this with Igor.

Also I use an LCE water tank. It's military grade and under 50 bucks from Amazon. Highly recommend that over anything.

The fridge is a great response. Though I know you can make that happen. I know you have range with the secondary fuel tank and you have a rtt.

Ignoring all the other basic stuff then...

I'd go for a good OBA setup. My co2 rig has made filling large tires a breeze.

After that I'd go for my Samsung tab 4 GPS as well. Having multiple maps easy to access is great and back country navigator is a great app for recording and viewing tracks. It's really change how I wheel. In fact I didn't have it this last weekend and it felt odd. Not that I care about getting lost so to speak but it's been very handy to have. Plus if you get that I can send to GPS tracks of this whole trip for you to follow with us and later at your own disposal.

Next would be ham radio.

Then I'd go for a good diffuse headlamp for eating your dinner and also some sort of high powered spot beam flash light. Head lamp doesn't blind you when using it in close quarters from reflections. Spot flashlight can be for spotting critters approaching camp.

And obviously ben hasn't met you but I have so you can ignore his attitude thing haha you're one of the most chill dudes I've met. Plus I think he forgot you dropped everything and drove a state over to tow my ass across Colorado and then helped me fix igor. For free. Haha

 

Oh and my portable shower. I know it's not a bug thing. But man when you've been on dusty trails for a few days, nothing is nicer then rinsing out the dirt from your hair at least. I know Mike just puts his head under his water jug. But I really like the whole shower thing. I used an old beer keg.

 

I combine that with baby wipes for the intimate bits now and then. It helps to keeps the itches at bay.

 

@m3bassman I will have a report on sunlight for you. Headed to the movie. Short version, you don't have to worry about water crossings. Like at all.

 

Will put the trasharoo on the list. Biggest thing is OBA so I'm not waiting on that little pump all the time. Im not willing to shell out $500 on that power tank garbage though. Looking at converting one of my scuba tanks. Fridge will be down the road for the Baja peninsula trip

Hmm you'll need some big mods to change that to a co2 tank.

But even getting a decent compressor is worth it really for 33s and under, air compressor is good.

Yeah so camping is past the private land which is a ways back. Then you hit the Little sunlight trail head. Camping starts until you hit a small single lane bridge. Then you're not allowed to camp within 1/2 mile of the creek. Which basically means the whole valley. Ha

None of the creek crossings are in that area. Smooth dirt road. We will likely end up at one of the many sites by the river.

As for the washout. It did wash a good chunk of road out. But is easy to cross. But off camber but not bad. Then drive in the river for like 30 yards. Then you're done.

You won't get to do any of that though which sucks as it is insanely gorgeous back there.

Was nice up there.

We did hit snow @Digiratus so we didn't make it over the pass. Then got thwarted by two huge trees on two of the roads. Had to back down over half a mile of single lane tight at trail..sucked. then narrow squeeze of rocks turned me back on another.

Still made it up high though so was fun. You'll love it

That is one serious chute. Reminds me of stuff we see in the higher elevations of the cascades.

Thanks for the scouting report @Blackdawg. I'll have my saw with me, kinda surprised you guys don't keep one in your trucks with the places you go. That thing has paid for itself many times over.

Sadly I didn't snag the tablet from igor. So I don't have anything. I'll make something though for you.

Frank is killer. Need to tweak how we pack him but god damn he drives great. Have a CEL which I'm stoked for mostly to tell me what's wrong. Then maybe I can run the 7th injector.

Not sure. Could snow before then. Who knows.

And I have a saw. So don't worry.

I have one. I cut down two today with my axe. But some of the trees I encountered were huge. Not worth my time atm.
