    Hello,
Has anyone attempted to install a fuel water filter separator with success.
    Keynotes:
    1) The fuel pump is inside the tank. Fuel pressure is about 20-22PSI
    2) I am not planning to change fuel pump example: URD Walbro 255LPH external pump.
    3) I was thinking something about DAHL 75 at 40 GPHmax at 25 PSI or Racor 110A 35GPH up to 100PSI.
    4) The Idea is to separate 99% of the water that comes into the gas tank. I live is Dallas Texas and when we are in rainy season I get water into my fuel tank

Has anyone installed one of these before with success since I don't see any post any where?

With success I mean not the how to do it but for did it worked or not?

If you are getting water in your tank I believe you have other issues that need to be addressed.

Shouldn't even pass inspection there if it can't hold a vacuum.

Couple of years ago back in 2015 Dallas received 22" of rain and we had major flooding around the city. After that the truck started to show typical engine OBDII misfire error. Took the gas tank down and indeed had about of a cup of water in the tank. After taking the water out no more misfire error. The truck ran ok again. Taking the gas tank down is kinda tedious compared to a water separator filter.
I would like to make this work. I have owned Land Cruisers before and had this type of filter but LCs fuel pumps were located outside the gas tank like not like the Tacoma's.

Water will condense normally from the available air in the tank, like it does in a plastic gas can or dew on the grass, or a station tank that is not maintained properly (there are many). Ethanol helps re-mix it so it goes on through, hopefully.

How about a fuel sump drain, like they have on aircraft wing tanks. You could check the tank for water and remove it in seconds, using a clear catch cup w/center protruding pin to operate the spring valve. 100% effective, won't leak, (they're made for aircraft fuel tanks).
Water is heavier than fuel, will always be in the lowest spot in the tank. You can see the water/fuel separation in the cup. An installed valve would be basically flush with the tank bottom.

Aircraft parts suppliers will have these inexpensive cups and valves. I had a couple links, but they keep changing stuff around on their sites... I can't keep up.

Why do you get water in the tank when it rains? Lousy fuel stations or something wrong with the truck?

Lots of us live in rainy areas, lots of us ford waters off road, and I can't recall seeing 'water in the tank' as an issue.

I agree. We have many 200k+ and a few 300k+ vehicles around here, never have seen this pop up as an issue.

Absolutely not saying you should not do it. But it seems like it would be better to stop water getting in in the first place, rather than needing to filter it out.

Let the truck sit too long, then the ethanol gas mixture will separate. Causing water to be at the bottom of the tank.

Factory fuel pressure is ~43.5 psi.

It is a good idea though just have to look up into the piece that would goes inside the plastic OEM tank and how to seal the joint.
Thank you never thought about it.

I never had this issue before probably like you, and never had it again after the weather event. I am 100% sure that it was more than one gas station that had water and probably more than twice the time I pumped gas/water mixture. Fuel Cap other connections are all fine. I have not crossed any river...neither. It was unfortunate in the sense that I had to service the engine at 180,000 miles.

The whole marine point to a racor is water coming in from the body water the boat is floating on. For automotive point the ethanol in gas separates the water from the gas causing corrosion inside the engine. I installed one two months back and drain it every two hundred gallons and i was surprised by actually how much was in after only 200 miles. Maybe it's just crappy CA gas:notsure:.IMG_20170218_151656.jpg

Could you specify which filter/separator you used in your build?
    I mostly appreciate your reply.
    Thank you

Thank you, This means that the filter I am looking for has to exceed this pressure.
