Hello there everyone. I'm new here, my names Greg and I'm having a troubling ac problem.
Took my 2006 4.0 tacoma x-runner to my mechanic because the compressor was shot. Once replaced my truck started blowing cold again...but only through the 1st and 2nd vent on the drivers side, the 3rd and 4th vent were blowing warm air(not hot) and the low pressure line wasn't getting cold at all. He since then replaced the condenser(which includes the built in dryer) and the ac clutch fan. Here's the kicker though, all 4 vents and low pressure line get ice cold in the mornings when its not redicouloius hot outside. Any idea what this could be???

wHAT KIND OF PRESSURE READINGS DOES IT HAVE? cOULD BE A bad or plugged expansion valve. If the compressor dumped pieces into the lines it will plug it up. Did he flush the system out?

That's what he thinks it prolly is, he put some flush in it and used s vacuum pump for an hr(not sure if that's good enough). I find it weird that it would be that if my first 2 vents are always cold(regardless of how it is outside). Like I said the mornings I'm getting froze out lol

Think maybe its clogged and the cooler air gives it enough power to break through

I have a similar situation with my 2009.

A couple years back the system was charged with off the shelf AC sealant and charge. I noticed a small improvement and cold air blowing from drivers side only.

So this year the compressor was diagnosed as a problem and had it replaced.

Took the truck for a flush and charge.

Now cold air blows from drivers vent only. The other vents blow warm air.

What is the likely cause and how to fix?

Cooler ambient temperature helps keep high head pressures down making it colder. Temperature differance between vents can be caused by only the first half of evaporater getting cold. Due to restricted. Freon flow thru expansion valve. The longer you run it in this condition the hard it is on you new compressor. Any time a compressor gernades inside. A new condessor, drier, expansion valve and flush is warrented. The expansion valve orfice is way to small to back flush it and expect it to do any good.

That and check blending doors inside of box when changing expansion valve for proper movement.

Would you say go ahead and replace the evaporator coil while I'm at it?

Shouldn't be a need for that. But do reflush the lines out.

How long does that take to open dash to access expansion valve? And how much $ for new expansion valve?

Thr expansion valve os fairly cheap like $20-$30, but dash removal and putting it back on is average 8hr job
