    Lone Star Las Cruces Takeover!!

Well, as the title says.. the Austin group is planning to do a Las Cruces run and we wanted to extend to everyone and iron out dates, as well as see who is interested. I'm not 100% on board yet simply because of the fact its during the school year, but it should work out.

The trip would be an off-road oriented trip. Sliders recommended, as always. I have been to the area twice and wheeled my own truck once, however, i'm by no means an expert on the trails there so there is a chance we can get into some fun stuff on accident. However, last time we went, I was with a basically stock TJ (2" lift and 265s) who didn't hit those plastic nerf bars the entire time. They're easier trails for some of us, but some level of comfort off road helps.

I am going to assume two groups; one that arrives Friday night and one that arrives Saturday mid day for those who can't take off work on Friday

    Proposed dates:
    • Thursday, August 31st - for those who can't shot gun the drive, leave today
    • Friday, September 1st - Make it to Las Cruces, take half of a mining trail, camp on the trail.
      • Entrance to the mining trail is: 32°21'56.7"N 106°36'52.2"W or just past 4604 Baylor Canyon Road. Below is a picture of the entrance, which is on the east side of the road
      • MiningEntrancePic.jpg
    • Saturday, September 2nd -
      • Finish mining trail, only a few can go at a time due to u-turn issues at the top. Relax, head into town.
      • Connect both groups in town, grab supplies, enough to last until Monday!
      • Head into the second mountain range, camp on the trail that night however far we get
        • For ease of access, i'd punch in "Prehistoric Trackways National Monument" into the GPS, if the group is split we can meet there
    • Sunday, September 3rd - We're here to wheel, lets do it!
    • Monday, September 4th - Get off the trail early, head home!
Some Las Cruces pics. Its also a beautiful drive up there.

    Oh, now I'm excited.

I plan on taking my 5yo along. If anyone has issues with that, say something. Seeing as how he starts school that week, we wouldn't leave any earlier than Friday. Plan on spending Friday night at Guadalupe Mountains NP. Then meet up Saturday... I guess after everyone comes back into town, or at the second trailhead.

Totally cool with bringing the little ones personally! Get em started young! Only thing I can think of is once we go into the mountain range we're off grid till Monday so prep accordingly

This intrigues me. I'm gonna have to see what my school load is like and a decent cost estimation (gas and good is the only big ones I'm assuming). School starts August 24th for me so I doubt we will have alot of work starting off. I'm gonna be a maybe for now.

And I'm a bit confused. Are we going to the Guadalupe nation park? Or Las cruses?

Most of my crew has already made plans to do Wolf Caves that weekend. I will say i'm a maybe but heavier on the no side because I would probably be alone since my boyfriend has to stay in town and oversee some work on his house. :(

The good news is if I come alone I can probably leave Thursday night but definitely Friday since my boss doesn't really care if I am in the office as long as I answer my phone and emails.

    This.

Others are welcome to join. Only caveat is that to stay at the campground you'll need a regular ground tent. If you have an RTT you'll be sleeping in the parking lot. Just hoping there's space available when i get there. :fingerscrossed:

Okay at the risk of being dense... what's the actual trip? Off roading in Las cruses? We camping on the trail in tents are the description says? Sorry hahaha sometimes I need things spelled out better. I think the Guadalupe mtn np is what is throwing me off.

All good. @pixelsailor is taking a short detour. For the rest of us who decide to go, we will be camping off trail for three days, with the rest of the time filled with wheeling and exploring the area. We will only stop for supplies once over the weekend in a drive through town, so be sure to stock up while you can, since we'll be going off grid while we camp/wheel for the weekend.

And yeah, primitive camping off the side of the trail.

I'm in!!!! The drive to LC is about 8.5 to 9 hours from S Austin. I may decide to camp along the way as well. I'm going to get my plans all set the next couple of days
