Ha! My guess is the wire is loose where you tapped in for the camper shell. May be worth looking at if you're bored.

I removed scotchlocks, replaced with heat shrink butt connectors. Could be loose wire tho, dunno, I'll keep looking

It's been awhile folks but I've finally got my answer!

I caused the whole problem, :censored:

After the cap was installed by a couple scotch lock lovers:crazy: I that day cut out damaged wires and replaced with heat shrinking butt connectors. I've been a mechanic 18 yrs and am the first to admit I did not have more than a few strands in the connection before crimping down which prolly pushed them even further out, then shrank protective film and moved onto verify it worked which it did:poking:. Now many years later it's been intermittent in operation, so I bought an earlier model taillamp, and been rocking the two face approach awhile, I'm like a dog with a bone so I cracked open the led one to see inside:ohsnap:
Toyed around with different paints to try and match the led output with an incandescent bulb only to realize it was a futile attempt . That's when I realized when I depress the brake pedal I lost the running lamp and the brake lamp did not even light up on that side so that sent me into looking why that's when I realized it was the old harness that's giving me the problems not the led assembly down inside

Needless to say I swapped harnesses with the incandescent harness and the led came on bright and happy as can be so I knew right then and there that I had made an error in my crimping .
