So, my brother and his friend knocked out my rear window last month while hauling a grill... long story short, I am on my second SafeLite replacement, and it is still leaking. Has anyone had better luck with the OEM rear window replacement? My brother and his friend paid for the first one, the second one was warrantied, but still leaked, and now I am considering putting in an OEM and paying the difference... is that a good move? Thanks for the help!

Why would you pay anything? They have not accomplished what they have already been paid to do. I would talk to the management of the place you are using and maybe get a different installer to perform the work. They are doing something wrong.

    Sliding or solid window? Curious.

I've had only one OE replacement out of a half dozen windshields, and that was because of a specific factory tint situation.

None ever leaked. Even a replacement Dad and I did on a mid 60's never leaked.

I agree w/@Jimmyh. It's most unlikely to be the glass, leaving the installer as the issue.

I'd be speaking with the manager and getting his commitment to his #1 tech. The guy he'd send to do work on a Bentley. :)

@Jimmyh the window is a slider. The second install was done by their "best tech". It leaked yesterday after a heavy rain, but usually it's in the garage so this was the first time I was able to check for leaks... and sure enough! Anyways, the only reason I asked about the OEM window, is because maybe it will have a better fit than the safelite after market window. Also, I only paid for the original replacement, the second one was done on warranty, and so will the third, unless I pay the difference for an OEM window. Thanks for the advice guys!

just a heads up...are you positive its coming from the actual window? only reason i ask is bc they have an issue with the sheet metal behind the panels right under the glass that leaks water and needs to be repaired at a body shop. so unless you actually see it coming in from the glass weather stripping, i would pull all the panels behind the seat and water test it....it may be coming in from down lower
below the window. i had this leak and so have a few others...theres a thread for it and even a video on youtube that one of the members here made. hope this helps.

If it is the window (and not a body issue as mentioned above, that may have been 'exposed' by the window swapping)................

Is there another Safelite shop in your area?

Seems like the warranty should be with any Safelite shop.

IIRC they are franchises. Maybe another shop will have a better staff.

I can go to any safelite for the work, but I have an appointment today for them to look at it again and see if they can find the problem. Its not a frame issue, because I didn't have the issue until it was replaced the first time. It could have been a problem "exposed" by replacing it, but I don't think so. The leak is coming from the top left corner of the window. I have a couple pictures of it dripping down.
