So I got my first Tacoma almost 3 years ago. '15 access cab in Barcelona red. Decided to lift her up with new shoes. So I have SCS SR8 in 17x8.5. toytech 3 inch Bilstein coilovers with 2 inch aal going on this weekend. Wanting to run 285s but I DO NOT want to cut on the frame. My question is, with the mudflaps off, how bad will the 285s rub or go with 275 70r17???

Get some ucas and get your caster to 3°should help with the rubbing and get your wheel far enough away from the cab. Welcome to TW

It should be just fine with 285s with flaps off you will still rub when the tire starts to stuff in the wheel well but like the above poster said with UCAs and a proper alignment and it should be aight if you can deal with the rubbing noise.

Agree with everyone but even with the CMC I I had to trim some inner fender. I also have caster set at 3 and 3.4 (offset for the crown of the road). It will be minimal in regular driving but will rub under harder driving.

If you're going to wheel it, go with 255s. No CMC needed.

My 255 85 16s still rub the cm just barely when it's fully stuffed, your results may vary but I would suggest a cmc even with 255s.

I spent the 4 hours cutting and capping my body mounts for 285's. Then i got the tires on and realized how much time i wasted sweating in 105 degree heat lol.

I'm on 285/75-16's tires, rims have 4.5" backspacing, with 5100s and 885 springs. clears just fine

I have LR UCAs with caster at 2.8 and low profile aftermarket mudflaps. A little rub doesn't bother me at the extremities of flex and turn combined. I did rub the flap a tiny bit when I jumped the truck a couple months ago. Meh.

I have also ordered JBA UCAs for alignment. I appreciate all the imput and probably going to just let em rub for now and don't plan any major off roading just dragging dead deer

I'm basically in the same boat except I have camburg uniball ucas, I also have the thin rally armor flaps. Just would be nice to completely eliminate the rubbing altogether. I've already made the filler plates for the cmc, I figure I might as well use em. :3

Just do the CMC and save yourself the hassle. Same tire same wheel same ucas same alignment, 1 guy rubs the other doesn't. That's tacomalife.

This is factual, need for triming and cutting the cab mount varies truck to truck. Best advise I can give to OP is to ask yourself, What size tire do you really want?
Get those, drive around, get out look for witness marks and start cutting. If you settle for a size you don't want because trimming makes you nervous, you'll kick yourself every time you look at your truck.

Yep. Even if you have to pay someone to do the CMC (like I did) it's not that expensive. Trimming the fender lining is easy and it's only cheap plastic that you are removing anyway.

That's a good rate, but if it takes longer than an hour then they are milking you. ;) My guy went ahead and painted the fill plates after welding them on as well.
