    2017 Tacoma TRD upgrade
    Hey guys

I just picked up my 2017 Tacoma TRD and the USB won't recognize my phone or my memory stick.

I'm taking it back to the dealer in the morning for detailing and I'll speak to them about it then however I just thought I'd ask here.

Anyone else have this issue? And any idea on potential fixes?

    Thanks guys!

Should just be able to stick in the stick with MP3's on it and it should play; however, it does have rules like.....
Must have folders for Artist, etc.. It's in the manual..

I will attempt to format shortly.

The USB stick is functioning fine in other devices (laptop etc)

You can also cruise on over to http://www.verbatim.com/index/search.php?words=fat32+tool and download the SmartDisk_FAT32_Tool (Verbatim FAT 32 Tool). With this you can format flash drives larger than 32GB as FAT32 in Windows. I have a 64GB drive formatted as FAT32 that I keep in my truck and it works like a charm. Just plug in your flash drive, launch the executable and format.

If you use this tool, make sure you don't have any other drives plugged in somewhere or just be very sure of what you're about to format.

I noted this in another thread but basically when I plug my Samsung Note 5 into the USB port, it pretty much stops the USB port from recognizing or even supplying power to anything else. The thread is here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/usb-port-issue.415115/page-2. My workaround is to turn the truck off and then back on again. The USB port seems to work fine with everything except my Note 5.

So I've reformatted to 'MS-DOS FAT', retransferred my music and it all worked fine.

Thanks to all who replied for the very helpful information.

I'm not sure if this issue is in any of the 3rd Gen Forum stickies ('mods and tips' or 'tips and tricks'), and I also don't know if I can add this to either of those, so I will summarize my issue with all the specifics, so if its unique or not been mentioned, it can be added.

Memory Card - SanDisk MicroSD 64gb SDXC
    Operating system - MAC OS
Vehicle - 2017 Tacoma DCLB TRD Upgrade Package (stereo with knobs at the bottom)
Original Memory Card Format - ExFat - Not sure if this is how it came or if this happened when I first (brand new out of the box) plugged it into the MAC
Reader: Using a simple Lexar microSD memory card reader that came with a Lexar memory card I bought last year

Program used: Disk Utility (a program I believe comes pre-installed on all Macs)

    Procedure:
    1. inserted the reader with the memory card into the MAC and backed up all the files from it on to a separate folder on the desktop.
    2. Opened the program Disk Utility
    3. Selected the memory card (icon that looks like a hard drive) on the left of the screen
    4. Noted the format that it was in (written just below the name of the drive in the main screen)
    5. Of Five icons at the top Clicked 'Erase' which opened a pop up window
    6. Changed the name of the drive, and chose format MS-DOS FAT from the format drop down menu
    7. Clicked Erase in the same pop up window to confirm the action
    8. After the process finished (took about a minute, may be longer dependant on how much is on the card) I properly ejected the drive, removed it and plugged it back in
    9. Selected the memory card on the left of the screen (in the Disk Utility App)
    10. Noted that the format had been changed to 'MS-DOS FAT'
    11. Re-transferred all the files into the card from the back up folder I had placed on the desktop
    12. Ejected properly, removed it and plugged it into the USB in the truck
    13. Pressed 'APPS' on the stereo, and found that I could now click the 'USB' icon (it wasn't greyed out anymore) and VOILA all my music showed up, in folders for artists, exactly like I had transferred it onto the memory card.

I hope this information can be useful to others!

Again thanks to all who replied today, and assisted me in solving this part of the issue.

I now need to tackle the phone not being recognized by the USB system, and if anyone has any ideas, i'd greatly appreciate it!

Well that is telling. Interesting. Since the USB reformat worked I would try plugging in another phone maybe a Samsung or whatever, just to see if it's the Xperia that the tacoma doesn't like.

I am new to the Tacoma and I am having trouble understanding how to get the folders display in any kind of understandable order. Could you point me to the pages in the manual that explain how they must be setup?

It won't read folder but will only categorize based on artist, genres and composer. Pretty lame right?
