You people who are defending this are insane...

I've owned over 30+ vehicles, worked on ranches and farms, lived in rural Illinois, Montana, and Arizona in every condition imaginable. I was also a service porter for a Dodge dealership for about 2 years. This is not normal for a truck to do at all. Out of all of the vehicles that I owned and driven personally, a good portion of them from the 70's-80's that were decades old, the only one that ever made noises like this was a 71 Ford F-250 Camper Special that I bought when it was 35 years old! Not even my 72 Lincoln Continental Town Car or 82 S-10 did this.

Just because some of you are ok with crawling under your new truck you paid 30-40k+ for doesn't mean everyone else is. If this was a characteristic of all trucks then I could understand that, but this is a product defect. Also I am not sure if all of you are experiencing this to the same degree as others are, and I'd be willing to take a video/audio of it to show you.

I currently live near Tucson AZ and in many cases my road turns from concrete to dirt for good portions of the year, which is why I bought the off-road. When I fix the squeaking it's literally a matter of days before it returns, which is an even bigger issue when I live somewhere that I like to drive with my windows down for the majority of the year. Sure I could spend some money and fix the issue for good, but replacing leaf springs or anything of the sort voids my warranty on that part and leaves me spending additional money on a vehicles I spent 40k on due to a manufacturer defect.

I have multiple cars, motorcycles and dirt-bikes that I tinker with and work on as a hobby, but that is why I bought this truck and the extended warranty, because I wanted one vehicle I didn't have to do that to.

I'd imagine those people defending this are the same ones who'd turn around and yell at Verizon because their brand new $600 iPhone made a screeching noise when they were on a call.

Again if this was a characteristic of all trucks/vehicles that encountered dirt then I could not say anything, but this is clearly a product defect and it's absurd anyone would imply that I should be ok with my brand new truck that I paid close to 40k for making noises like this and the manufacturer won't do anything about it.

Had Toyota told me that their truck makes horrendous noises when it encounters dirt and needs constant maintenance, because of my living conditions I would have chosen a different vehicle and this wouldn't be an issue.

Also yes, I have been to a dealership and had them look at it. They replaced the silencer pads on the leaf springs, but had 0 effect. I have the ticket number for it and will be contacting corporate to seek a resolution as well as bringing the truck back in 2-3 more times before my 2 year 20k miles. I like my Tacoma, it's a great truck, I am simply looking for a resolution on a product defect and it should not be this difficult.

They do something about it. They clean the leaf springs and send you on your way.

lol, true. Maybe I should try and find a job close to the dealership so I can drop it off there on lunch every day for that until my warranty runs out. :)

That's something that would be considered a maintenance need, not a warranty need. You expect your dealership to wash your car too when it gets dirty?

Weird. Never had squeaky leafs on ANY truck I've owned and I've owned every
brand and this is my 4th taco - no squeaks. I haven't taken this one off road yet
though but have with the others and still nothing.

Stock leaf squeaked and Dakar leaf pack squeaked worse. Use white lithium grease at the bushings to stop 90% of the squeaks. I currently run greaseable leaf spring bolts and have not had an issue or bother greasing for the past 6 months. I take it off road and beach at least once a month if not more.

Thank you. If I get no where with Toyota I will obviously have to go this route. Also good callout on the Dakars squeaking as well, I was curious about that. My understanding from a video posted previously is that it's not actually the leafs themselves, but the brackets that hold the leafs in place.

Even after the new pads were put in and the leafs were cleaned off, it was squeaking as they pulled it into the service area for me to pick back up.

I know this is a 2014 and haven't gotten under the truck yet to check, but I am assuming it may be the same issue on the 3rd Gen
