i don't have a 3rd gen, but test drove a few, i know the plastic in the 3rd gens is much more dense than previous generations. sounds like you were quoted for the entire center/shifter console.

honestly, only your husband knows what happened. could have been as innocent as leaving some keys laying in that spot, he could have tried cleaning something with acetone. not going to defend the dealer, but that doesn't just happen. i will agree with the other members tho, if you stomp your feet enough, toyota may just goodwill you the part or parts.

I missed that the first time. Sorry. Likely not coincidence based on the numerous questions asked/answered here. As @anthony_cvt suggested - start working on the dealer for warranty/replacement of the plastic/damaged pieces and you can emphasize that since the dealer installed accessory and electrical short has been fixed - there has been no new/further damage.

If you knew my husband you would know that it isn't possible with him. He babies his vehicles. Very specific about what products he uses on his vehicles. His keys for the truck sit in front of the console while he is driving.

most of the dealers quote has to be labor. The parts aren't actually hard to replace yourself, its just tedious, careful work removing and replacing them, because they are in fact just plastic. again, not familiar with 3rd gens, but probably minimal screws, and tons of body clips.

I'm fascinated by the depth of the melt around edges.
They don't change like you would expect if something was laid across it.
