Did the dealership do any type of "complimentary detail"?
Possibly a rag with strong chemicals was accidentally placed on the console?
I can see this damaging plastic, but the leather boot still has me baffled.

    Still resorting to Aliens.
Don't rule it out.. real possibility.

High heels can cause that kind of damage, don't ask me how I know :anonymous: I paid about $150 for the parts posted on the eBay link above. She was wearing something similar to these IMG_2569.PNG.jpg

You could see some indents on the far side of the console that are the same as the "surface imperfection". That's from sometthing hot. I don't think chemicals would cause the same type of linear defect on plastic and leather. It has to be something heated that came in conctact with both parts

looks like wire or something shorted and was laying over the console. If it appeared after the dealership visit its prob something they did.

Your truck is into S&M... those are marks from being whipped with a live 480v cable.

Check the tailpipe for signs of abuse.

    THIS.
Now that I look at it, the entire pattern looks as if a cable was laying on there. Like a phone charging cable of sorts. But got hit by a damn lightning bolt. The heat/arcing marks match

Definitely burn marks from hot wires, or solder iron set down thinking it was off. Its as if they had wire bundles laid over it and they heated enough to melt the plastic and boot. But the plastic on the wires were ok? You said his phone always on console? Maybe getting too hot when charging making marks with the case?

A soldering iron? Unless they've developed a new soldering whip there is zero chance that's an iron.

That's all I have to add. I have no clue what that is. Most of the lines are parallel in pairs. But still. No idea.

And if a charging cable got hot enough to melt plastic you'd notice in the cable.

Not a soldering iron per say. But any wire that had some serious power going through it shorted to ground. Maybe some test wire at the dealership..idk

Yeah but that many times? There are what 7-8 lines at least. Dealers are pretty stupid but after the first couple they would have noticed.

There is absolutely no consumer available portable laser that could do that. Yes there are readily available ones that can light matches and such, but it has to be pretty close and takes a few seconds.

did they tell you how they fixed the short issue? did they pull things apart to fix it?

they may have replaced something and not had the battery disconnected and created a short to something laying over the console...details of what exactly they did could answer everything.

That looks like branding marks from the sun coming through the window glass. I've seen something similar on a motorcycle. It was caused by the sun coming through the edges of the plexi screen on the bike. It's all on roughly the same angle.
