2017 tacoma access cab TRD Off Road
Hello all of my fellow Tacoma Owners. I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD off road access cab. I went four wheeling and here is my question. I pushed the crawl control button in order to activate the option and see how it performs. After I placed the crawl control to use the option and my Tacoma started to crawl up the hill, I heard the strangest sound when I placed my foot on the brake. The sound also made its presence known when crawling down the hill with my foot on the brake. But when it crawled without my foot on the brake there was no weird sound. Again, this is the strangest sound like a clinking...hard to explain.

If any of you good people have had such a similar experience please let me know as I am concerned whether or not this is a normal with the crawl control system. Thank you so much.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
If it sounds like your diff is going to explode, then yes it's normal.

Did it sound like meth-addled squirrels with rabies trying to play Blue Man Group on bongos under your hood? Yep, that's normal.

That's the brakes actuating to control speed, so you are going to hear it whenever the truck has to keep speed down, such as going down hills. You will rarely hear it going up hill because the brakes are seldom needed (except to control wheel slip).

You don't use your brakes with crawl control on. The truck does the work for you. If you have it in the 2 lowest settings it's going to make noises like your truck is coming apart. Don't worry that's just the brake actuators doing their job. I run it in the 2 higher settings depending on the terrain. Each setting is like .5 mph.

When you let off the brakes on crawl my buddies truck was hesitating. I'm sure it's normal? Of course it scared the shit out of since we never used it first.

"Did it sound like meth-addled squirrels with rabies trying to play Blue Man Group on bongos under your hood?" That made my day. man. I've been wheeling as an archaeologist for 40 years. I find the crawl utility silly, and if you know what you're doing, unnecessary, but I'm a cranky old man.
