Toyota: Why pay for resale value if you never intend to re-sell? (yes, I changed the title)

I live in CA and my 2012 just KBB at over $29K. That's more than I paid for it, and it's paid off. Here is a pic, now it has Pelfreybilt Bumper. I plan on keeping it till it dies.

The fact that you damage your vehicles (enough to lower the resale value) while driving off highway isn't some kind of badge of honor, or bragging rights. It is entirely possible to drive these trucks to some amazing, remote locations over rough terrain and not damage them at all. They're really built for this kind of use from the factory.

I'm by no means an expert, but I would recommend you invest in yourself and take some professional OHV drivers training, even if it's a 4WD 101 course from a group like the I4WDTA:
    http://www.i4wdta.org/

There is a big difference between using a 4x4 and abusing a 4x4. Case and point, a bloated, over-sized EarthRoamer XVJP traversing the Rubicon Trail unscathed:

    Good luck,

Op needs a buggy, something he can take and thrash his way through the fields. He needs to find the right toy.

Wrong, I bought this FJ-40 for $2500 with a blown motor. Dropped a highly used motor in it for $550, cleaned it up, added old school used wheels, put some Mud Kings on it, ripped the top off, put a 6 point cage in to for a few hundred bucks. Put it up for sale and it sold in one day for $$$$$s. Don't want to brag. Just saying it was a great investment. Go Toyota.

I asked for number on the manual and they insisted on trying to sell me a premium auto for 43k. GTFO I did all the hunting online to find 1 of 3 in the entire north east for a DCSB TRD OR in white. These trucks hold their value like crazy but you'll pay it off and still be worth a lot.

It's been a fun read, but this is why I own Toyota's. The entire drivetrain still works on the rig, starts, runs, shifts, and wants to still go wheeling.

    This and that...
Currently, there are 10 Tacomas on Carmax within you price range or close to it that are 4x4. This is where I purchased mine and was given a fair deal just below blue book. You may have to pay a couple $100's to transfer it, but sometimes it's free. Just keep checking the site and one near you will become available. Financing is easy too. I added their extended warranty up to 100,000 miles reluctantly due to it being a "Toyota," but for an additional $7 a month it is a nice piece of mind. Its a 2014 DCLB TRD Sport with 25,000 miles for 5K more than what you're looking at. Also, it was in CO where they cant keep them on the lot.
