Anyone else have an issue with releasing the factory tonneau cover?

I open the tailgate, pull the lever that should release the connection points, but it doesn't. The other 2 release levers work just fine, but the first one does not...

The latches need to be aligned with the striker pins. Do that with the cover closed and find a neutral position after you loosen the latches with a 10mm socket. You'll have to remove the soft plastic cover that hides the hardware too. This is similar to aligning a door striker, but the striker pin isn't the part you're loosening for the tonneau adjustment.

Ok.. the gearing and hardware that the lever connects to is under a plastic secured by star head screws. Is that where the striker pin can be adjusted?

Striker pin is fixed to the bed rail and not adjustable since it's centered with countersunk bolts.
The part with the gears and lever is not the part you adjust. It's the latches you adjust that's located on the outer edges of the cover that interface with the striker pins on the bed rails. You should probably let the dealer do it since it's brand new. Sometimes manually shifting the Tonneau can get it to latch better also. It will end up pivoting around the "security" bolt.

Ahhhh... gotcha! I know what the latches are then.

    Thank you!

Adjusted the latches didn't do the trick..

Opened up the covers that cover the cable from the lever to the latches and found that one end of the cable was disconnected. Connected it back to the green clip and all is good again!

Thank you for the ideas @GPsevinSixx

I have some cover. No issues for me.
I'm sure Toyota will say that's normal. I hope you get it fixed

I dont think this is the same issue as the OP but maybe...

My latches were just fine but the last panel where it meets the tailgate is very loose and easily moves up and down. Its bad enough to where the rubber weather stripping doesnt make a complete seal. Is this just how they come or is there a fix for it?

    THanks

Reviving this thread and question above. Just got my truck and it’s loose on end nearest tailgate. Is this normal ?

That last panel needs a “double click”. When you close the last panel it will latch the first step and then you need to push down again right above the latch/striker and you will hear it click a second time.

My last panel stays loose too when I close it. To make it tight, I have to look under the cover and push up on the metal semi-circular locking bar to make it click into place.
(Dealer told me to slam the lid closed...Personally, I don't think slamming anything makes it last longer.)

Thanks! I finally located that second set of clicks and that helped a ton to make it more secure at the end of the cover. Much appreciated

Yeah I wouldn't slam it. Pushing on top after the first click will engage the second part of the latch that you're locking from underneath.

A small push down gets the second click for me.
