Hey folks...First I did search but could not find the info. I picked up a set of 4Runner Trail edition wheels (2016) with TPMS. Parts guy says they will not work with my 2017 Tacoma. I do have the TPMS that came with the steel wheels. Is he wrong or should I just try and fit the TPMS from the SR steel wheels in the trail edition wheel? Anyone tackle this same scenario before? I know some have used the steel wheel TPMS in Tacoma alloy wheels and just turned it 180 degrees. I already got the different lug nuts on the way.

The aluminum and steel wheels do use different sensors. One comes in at a 40 degree angle and the other at a 20 degree angle.

3rd gen TPMS are different from all previous TPMS, the steel sensors fit the alloys but just risk breakage on tire install if not careful. I would try it myself personally.

I am leaning towards using the steel TPMS and just telling them to be very careful. Wouldn't have to worry about reprogramming that way plus save a few bucks.

Parts guy says that Tacoma will not sync with sensors from the 2016 4Runner.

Called them but he was not sure. Said when he looked up parts number that it did not list it...too far away from nearest LS to let them check it.

The 4Runner doesn't have the tire pressure monitor in the TPMS. Might have trouble working with your Tacoma which is looking for different info than the 4Runner is looking for.

Ahh. Thanks. Guess I will just pull them and use the TPM out of the Tacoma wheel. Will just have to be careful putting tire on.

Just to follow up the TPMS from the 2016 4Runner would not sync with the 2017 Tacoma.
