The only people that like 4bt swapped tacos are people who masturbate to pictures of diesel trucks. These people have never owned a diesel truck, never driven a diesel truck, and have never even sat in a diesel truck. They claim to love it simply because it is diesel in a Tacoma and have absolutely no idea what it is all about.

These same people don't realize that diesel in a mid size truck is stupid and has no benefits.

the 4bta that most people use. not just the 4bt. its makes over 400tq and nearly 200hp. sure it weighs nearly 800 pounds but it does work.

So I don't see how an increase in fuel efficiency as well as a sight increase in driveability with a modern light weight diesel is stupid.

    Please explain.

Also I'm not talking about the 4BT or 4BTA. We are talking a modern 500 pound 2.8 liter engine providing more bottom end torque I'm the same weight and size package.

4BT is out of the question strictly dimensionally speaking. The engine is too tall to mount properly without significant modification to the frame and suspension.

A bit under powered also this is an industrial engine not suited for daily driving.

Increase in fuel efficiency is offset by the higher cost of diesel. It's a wash. A tiny but more torque yes but not enough to make much of a difference, plus less horsepower which will make it feel like a slug. Ever driven a diesel tacoma overseas? It sucks. Now add the premium you will have add to get the motor on an already 35k truck, plus the high cost in maintenance, mix in the lower dependability due to choked down emissions standard and you come up with a stupid idea. People only want this to look cool, and if that is the reason I'm all for it. They just need to look inside themselves and admit it. Other wise it's pointless.

Well that contradicts everything this post is about.
Modern diesels are much more efficient than their gasoline counterparts. I am making a direct comparison to the 2.7 in my truck which produces 151 horsepower and 190 pounds of torque. The 2.8 Cummins has more torque in a useable RPM range vs the 2TR-FE. The emissions choking them down comment is also not valid. My example is my other truck which is a 2015 Ram 2500 diesel that produces the same fuel efficiency as my Tacoma with the 2TR-FE.
On the topic of fuel costs that will depend on where you live. Here in Texas (specifically where I live) the average diesel price is about 2.25 cents and regular unleaded is 2.15 the difference is 2.10 in added cost for 21 gallons of fuel. Now if you couple that with the possibly of 25 MPG or better (Cummins test bed is a Jeep 4x4 that achieves 30 MPG) the fuel costs are greatly curbed because you go further on the same amount of fuel. My 2TR-FE averages 19-20 MPG which after burning 15 gallons of gasoline is about 300 miles which cost 32.25. With a diesel yielding 25 MPG the same 15 gallons would yield 375 miles at a cost of 33.75. Cost per mile for diesel is .09 cents compare to gasoline .107 cents per mile. So put simply cheaper to drive. Cost of maintenance is not much different considering HDEO can be pushed much further than 5000 miles before an oil change. My oil change cost for the Tacoma is 35 dollars which is changed every 5000 miles. The average with a modern diesel is 7500 miles before changing the oil and a gallon of 15W-40 cost around 13 dollars and oil filter between 9-15 dollars. The 2.8 ISF holds about 1.3 gallons of oil.

Bottom line a diesel would be a much more viable option compared to the 2TR-FE for highway driving and off road crawling.

Yeah of course that little 4 cylinder is garbage. You know what would be way cheaper and a better option? Get the taco with the v6
