Some people probably would. Some vets develop a sense of entitlement and think because they served they should get discounts and free shit as a result.

Here, permanent plates are free for vets with service connected disabilities. There are other veteran plates (branch, operation, medal, MIA/POW, I think there are also division plates available) which do cost $ and with some, the money goes to different veteran organizations.

I'd love to see that conversation. I'll tell that person to STFU, nobody "deserves" anything. And I damn well didn't put my life on the line for a 10% discount at a fast food chain or an auto parts store.

However, if you served and a company offers it, you should get it.

I'm in the Army. We all raised our right hands and earned the paychecks and benefits we receive monthly. No one earns or deserves a free ride, discounts or anything else from anyone else. You didn't earn 10% off at Lowes by serving. If a company chooses to offer that as a courtesy and you choose to accept it, fine, but to expect it or to think you earned it in some way is wrong.

I use my discount at two places, Under Armour and Home Depot. Both give a LOT of money back to veteran's organizations. As far as other benefits, I just use the typical VA stuff like my home loan and USAA insurance.

I had OIF plates on my Tahoe but I exchanged them for the standard plates when I read about a few lone wolf Jihadi incidents harassing service members near bases. I'm not really in an area where I have to worry about hippie wanna-bes who want to be passive aggressive bitches and key a car in a parking lot just because they see a Vet tag.

When I pick up my Tacoma I'll probably put OEF plates on, just because the Sandstorm Tacomas kinda look like the "Ford Rangers" we used with the Commandos and ANA SF.

I put "Ford Rangers" in quotation marks because all of our ignition keys were Toyota. I'm not sure what on truck was actually Ford aside from the badging.

I don't use one for my truck cause the truck is driven like a boat. On the IS300 however, cops in SoCal LOVE to ticket sport compacts so on the 300 I have vet plates and IMO they helped a lot.

It's a soflo video, which means it's most likely fake. Just meant to get as many views as possible to make $ off of it.

I have my combat veteran plates. Former Marine infantryman. Kind of jealous of the plain vet tags cause it say veteran with an American flag. But my plate got me out of a ticket today, had my dog in my front seat didn't know it was illegal even thought she was buckled in. For me I resented being a vet for a few years and it took me awhile to even go to the VA(7 years). I never ask for discounts or free shit on Veterans Day because I see too many shit birds taking advantage of it and I don't like messing with other peoples profits. If it was for the Korean/Vietnam vet neighbor I might still feel the same way about being a veteran. But now I am proud, and hold my head high.

Thank you for your service. Always hold your head high. You've stood stronger for something than 99.9% of people will ever feel about something. I don't ask for much either, well, except for my 10% discount at Home Depot. I spend too much money there not to take advantage of that one.

And as far as the dog in the car, you're the first person I've heard of stopped for that. Just like I'm the only person I know to get a jaywalking ticket. It was in downtown Seattle right next to the main drug dealing/crime corner near Pike Place market. I told the cop to arrest the drug dealers and stop wasting his time. It didn't go over well. lol

I'm the same way. I know some dudes who think everyone should toss their salad because they served.
Gives the rest of us a bad name.

Drives nuts. Lowes is the only time I've used a veteran discount and that's because I was remolding my house. I used to work at the Cheesecake Factory in Waikiki and dudes or their wives would ask me if we had one. They most likely would get upset when I told them no. If it's a small business like a mechanic or something like that I wouldn't take it because I know I hard it is to be a small business owner.

The wife an I are both Air Force Retired. On Veterans Day we go to Twin Peaks and get a free meal off their Veterans menu. Usually a burger or wings. We toast a cold Knotty Brunette (beer) to our friends and those that serve. Last year we sat at the bar with some active duty Airmen. We bought them a round...they bought us a round.

Did we earn it... with all humility hell yes, we all did. Be a patron of places that recognize our service. It's a thank you from those that are grateful.

Every Veterans Day. Free burgers, wings and other bar food. Beer is regular price.

As always the view is spectacular.
