Bought my 2012 Tacoma Access Cab 4x v6 new. I had previously put 180K on a 2000 Tacoma (essentially the same truck but 12 years older, also bought new). Always kept the trucks stock.

Now I have a need to use it for truck camping. My challenge is that I have to use a CPAP machine to sleep, so have to set up a power inverter to deliver pure sine wave 120V power to the cab (CPAPs are considered sensitive electronics).

Just bought a shell and a mattress, so getting there. The DesktoDirtbag guy's blog (helpful) talks about a dual battery system with isolator in order to avoid killing your starter battery. I will not be running the power while driving, but the sound system guy who I am considering having do the work says I need to upgrade the alternator to something like a 200amp HO aftermarket version to make everything work without killing the batteries prematurely (not mentioned in D-to-D's blog). I'm considering a deep cycle marine battery to support the inverter.

Anybody have any experience with this? Recommendations on making the upgrade? on components/brands to use/avoid? Sorry for the lengthy post. Thanks for your help.

Why not consider a 1k generator to use at night or to charge your battery. Not good if in a campground. Most have quiet hours.

I'm intending to set up "camp" in urban parking lots and/or public streets overnight. Sparing the details, I need my set-up to be self-contained with all equipment onboard. I would quickly draw unwanted attention with a generator, hence the battery bank/inverter approach. But thanks for your input.
