ive read several threads on the forum but most are kinda dated. Battery went TU while I was away on a fire assignment, i was planning on a diehard 31M but I'm getting conflicting reports on if they've been discontinued or not. That would be my first choice but have also heard good things about the optima red and yellow tops. I'm not very knowledgeable on this subject so any insight would be much appreciated. I'll be running a winch, lights and eventually an onboard compressor. Thanks!

Personally I think that the Optima batteries are way over rated, especially for what they cost.

Pretty much any 27 battery with a decent warranty should do the trick. Most of them are made by just a few manufacturers. Interstate has a good rep.

I got the house brand AGM battery at Advance Auto. Been a great battery so far. Should last as long as Optima but cheaper.

Check out X2Power AGM batteries from Batteries+Bulbs. They're rebadged Northstars - which ,IIRC, were rebadged Diehard Platinums before Sears stopped carrying them. Northstar is considered by many to be the best in the business. X2Power units have excellent warranties and you have a nationwide dealer network if you do need to file a warranty claim - which is very unlikely. I was just in Batteries+Bulbs this morning and they are running a rebate on X2Power units.

My experience with a X2Power Group 31 AGM marine variant in my 2012 TRD Sport:

From what I read, they moved production to Mexico years ago and their product line went to shit.

For some time Optima has been riding on:
    1) a reputation that was earned years ago when their batteries were quality and made in the USA
    2) a great marketing campaign

They're the Fram of battery manufacturers.

Back when they where made in the USA it was great. I had a fully shaved corolla and would leave the front doors open all day with my tv's and subs running at car shows and it never died. I killed a yellow top after about a half of doing that then moved to blue top and never had a problem again. They where great back in the day.
