Hello, I am finishing up installing all the necessary parts needed so my 2004 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner TSS V-6 double cab can tow a small trailer we bought. My truck is NOT the TRD. I have already installed every other part needed, except the brake controller. I'm not having problems installing the brake controller itself, but I am having problems wiring the brake controller. I am having trouble locating one particular port.

According to the directions that come with the Reese Towpower part #78055 OEM Wiring Harness Brake Control Plug & Play, I should be able to locate the vehicle's electric brake harness underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. There should be a 5-pin connector that mates with the one on the adapter.

I do NOT have an emergency brake pedal to the left of the steering column, I have an emergency brake handle on the left of the steering column. I located two empty ports, but neither are the correct ones. I cannot find any wiring schematics or any sort of photos or pictures that can assist me.

I fear my particular model of Tacoma did not come with the factory port and I will need to wire directly. I am fully capable of performing that, if needed, but I need assistance in locating the proper splicing point. Any information, including pictures and videos would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Wow, stumped ya'll.

Anyhow, I got it figured out. The particular model I possess does not come with the brake control port hanging near a foot brake pedal...that's the difference between the TRD and my TSS.

I solved the problem by buying a universal brake controller wiring kit. I thought it was worth the price, and bother to perform a return, to scavenge the plug & play termination port from my now, useless, OEM plug & play wiring harness for brake control.

The instructions were clearly written, easy to understand and it's the tiny BLUE wire that you spice into. The BLUE wire is your "cold side of the stoplight switch" (only hot when the brake is depressed) which you will use the splice connector and the red wire, coming from the back of your Brake Control. Make sure the end of the red wire is in the side which has the "stop" in it. My advice, snap the blue wire into the far end of the splice connector after determining the inner slot has a "stop" in it and is reserved for the end of the red wire. Close the "door" until you hear "CLICK!". There is a ground point hidden behind that mess of wires up in the left side of the drivers side behind the fuse box. You connect the white wire from the original plug & play oem wiring harness, because you can't have too many grounds. (well, sometimes you can, but not in this particular situation) The white wire which comes directly from the battery ground, butt connects to the white wire coming out of the back of the Brake Control. There should be a battery ground screw about 3" from the neg (-) on your battery. That is a perfect location for the Ground (-) to be terminated. It was really easy to push the black and white wire through the rubber grommet closest to the inside fender. Don't forget to install the in-line fuse. It can be installed anywhere along the black (+) wire. I'm getting too old to keep stuffing that crap under the dash, so I used it to connect to the pos (+) battery terminal.
The only other wire is the blue one. While I wait for my husband to decide where he's going to place the air compressor, I can tell you, this will be your longest run, as you must run this wire all the way from the rear of the truck, where you mounted your trailer connector (or close to the area you will be installing the trailer connector) This must be run and connected to the blue wire coming out of the back of you Brake Control. Or, as it was, the pig-tails sticking out of the port I "borrowed" from my "mistake purchase"
